AveXis is advancing cutting-edge science, starting with our proprietary gene therapy for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). We are in the midst of an incredible journey and are looking for passionate individuals to join us on this important mission.

AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Research Associate II, Analytical Development - Chem Test, performs routine analytical sample testing and data analysis in support of IND filings of pipeline projects and regulatory commitments for the commercial product(s) as well as manufacturing process development, improvement and validation. This role also participates in assay qualification/transfer and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Under appropriate supervision, perform routine sample testing and data analysis (in-process and DS/DP) in the group of AD-Analytical Chemistry to support
    • Regulatory commitments for AveXis' commercial product(s)
    • IND filings of pipeline projects
    • Manufacturing process development, improvement and validation
  • Manage lab equipment and software.
  • Participate in assay troubleshooting, assay qualification and assay transfer upon supervision of experienced lead scientist as needed.
  • Support and manage the procurement, use and maintenance of scientific equipment and analytical instrument.
  • Liaise with other functional groups (Manufacturing, Technical Development, Process Science, and Quality) to coordinate sample testing planning, prioritization, submission and timely data delivery under limited supervision of his/her manager.
  • Other Related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • BS in chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering or related scientific discipline, with minimum of 2 years industry experience.
  • Basic understanding and working knowledge of protein and DNA chemistry.
  • Basic understanding and working experience with analytical techniques and related software including but not limited to HPLC, CE, and spectroscopy.
  • Quick learner, highly motivated and hard-working.
  • Good lab practice, good documentation practice, detail oriented.
  • Strong ability to adapt into in a fast-paced team environment, to prioritize work from multiple projects with can-do attitude.


The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
