AveXis is advancing cutting-edge science, starting with our proprietary gene therapy for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Senior Director, Global Marketing and Market Access, New Products will be responsible for developing and implementing global marketing and access strategies and initiatives for AVXS-201 (Rett Syndrome), AVXS-301 (genetic ALS), and new products, including leading the global brand planning processes. Individual will serve as a key interface to peers in medical affairs, clinical, manufacturing, HEOR, and regulatory affairs functions, providing commercial guidance for scientific communications, trial design and footprint, country sequencing, and labeling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead key global marketing processes and initiatives for New Products, including business planning, development of the global strategic plan and global messaging platform, ensuring alignment and consistency across regions.
  • Lead global marketing (global brand plan, positioning, branding, TPP, segmentation, etc.), patient advocacy and KOL management global initiatives for Rett Syndrome and genetic ALS programs.
  • Lead the implementation of Global KOL Advisory Boards for AVXS-201 and AVXS-301 in close collaboration with Global Medical Affairs and regions.
  • Drive AveXis presence at selected key congresses and education initiatives for healthcare professionals in close partnership with global cross-functional stakeholders and regional leadership.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a cross-functional, cross-regional business plan (including country identification, sequencing, market entry, revenue targets, headcount and cost estimates), and business case review and approval (e.g., geographic expansion) in partnership with relevant global functions and regional leadership.
  • Partner with global medical affairs on the development and implementation of scientific communications, practice guidelines, medical education and information, HEOR and registries across regions.
  • Partner with clinical and regulatory functions on country sequencing, trial design, site footprint, KOL/expert involvement, labeling, and any product monitoring, administration and handling requirements, or post-marking commitments across regions.
  • Assess status of newborn screening (NBS) for applicable diseases and develop NBS strategy with prioritized initiatives and tactics to accelerate NBS implementation in selected key markets.
  • Build and foster relationships with the top-tier key opinion leaders/experts, patient advocacy groups, and policy-making organizations in Rett and ALS, in close collaboration with regional leadership and other global functions.
  • Foster/enable cross-regional sharing of best practices assets where appropriate while ensuring consistency in product positioning, branding and messaging platform.
  • Assist in key global market access initiatives for New Products, working closely with the GHEOR, global business analytics and regional leadership to include development of global pricing and access strategy, value proposition, value messages, and payer negotiation strategy.
  • Drive cross-functional Global Health Economics and Access Steering Team (GHEAST)/Global Value Team discussions regarding New Products in collaboration with co-lead to ensure all initiatives (e.g., HEOR, Market Access, Business Insights, Policy), which are designed to demonstrate the value of New Products, are fully integrated, aligned and on schedule to support launch readiness globally.
  • Support value communication plan execution in close collaboration with PR, Investor Relations, Medical Affairs, Commercial, and other key stakeholders.
  • Instill a culture of ethics and integrity that ensures compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
  • Maintain awareness regarding market trends, competition, product acceptance, and new product releases.
  • Operate within approved budget.


Qualifications

  • At least 7+ years of relevant experience as a marketing and/or market access leader that includes the launch and commercialization of innovative, first-in-class specialty pharmaceutical products in more than one country across his/her career.
  • The ability to work across multiple functions, geographies, time zones, and cultures is required.
  • Prior experience in rare diseases and prior experience in a small, rapidly growing company are both preferred.
  • B.S. or similar degree is required and an advanced degree (Masters, Doctorate, or similar degree) is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English is required, and proficiency in at least one other major language is preferred.
  • A genuine care for patients and passion to make a meaningful difference in their lives.
  • Demonstrated experience in the conception, development and execution of business plans for highly specialized products in the U.S. and abroad, with a focus on marketing and market access.
  • "Feet on the ground" experience in the U.S. and outside the U.S., with strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Prior franchise/product/country P&L responsibility and/or responsibility for the execution of commercial strategy for physicians and payers.
  • Team player with proven ability to work collaboratively in a global, matrix organization.
  • Strategic thinker who understands cross-functional priorities, needs and gaps, "connects dots" across the organization and can identify practical solutions.
  • Executive presence; able to effectively represent the Company internally and externally.
  • Strong accountability and experience leading complex cross-functional projects.
  • Entrepreneurial, decisive, with the tenacity to "make things happen."
  • A penchant for the science; ability to translate complex science into impactful messaging.
  • This position is based in the corporate headquarters in Bannockburn, Illinois. Travel is estimated to be 15-25%, with the majority being international.


The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
