AveXis is advancing cutting-edge science, starting with our proprietary gene therapy for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Senior Director, Global Sales Training and Development reports into the Vice President, Global Brand Marketing and is a key member of the senior leadership team within the commercial organization. This role is responsible for developing training strategies and programs that support business objectives and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the efforts of team in the achievement of the strategic and operational objectives for core global training.
  • Partners closely with the AveXis Regional and Select Country Operations sales leadership, marketing and managed markets and legal/compliance teams to develop training strategies and programs that support business objectives and strategic initiatives.
  • Assess Go-to-Market Models in the Regional and CPO level to provide guidance on the design, structure and execution of critical sales models.
  • Consults with key business functions to ensure ongoing training and development meets current field needs and is delivered effectively using adult learning principles.
  • Directs the learning strategy and overall design, development and delivery of the training programs necessary to enhance existing programs and to create effective training solutions to meet immediate and long-term goals of the organization.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, to establish a strategic vision and proactive approach to building high impact training programs that align to strategic business imperatives for new hires.
  • Collaborates with the US Sales Training and Development team in order to maximize synergy of programs in the US and take key learnings/programs from the US into ex-US AveXis markets.
  • Work closely with leadership team members in Marketing, Sales, Managed Markets, Commercial Analytics, and other functions to ensure implementation of optimal training for the organization.
  • Work closely with Regional and Local Country leadership on the design of the sales go-to-market models in order to effectively commercialize the key AveXis brands.
  • Foster partnerships with other teams and consults on optimal delivery of information in conjunction with training and development plan.
  • Develops and implement sales training and development programs and content to support business objectives and improve performance behaviors.
  • Partner and play an integral role in compliance training.
  • Helps reinforce a learning culture by leveraging multiple avenues, such as surveys, assessments, forums and team effectiveness.
  • Selects vendor and consultant services as needed to augment sales training and development initiatives.
  • Shares best demonstrated practices and informs team of new training programs.
  • Organize, facilitate, and continually improve field training, meetings, and the execution of new materials.
  • Proactively conduct on-going communications with sales leadership and other key stakeholders to identify training needs and develop specific training objectives to meet those needs.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree (Marketing, Business or related). MBA preferred.
  • 12 years of progressive pharmaceutical experience.
  • 6 years in training (US domestic and additionally ex-US markets).
  • Possesses a deep and thorough knowledge of the needs of a field sales organization - US domestically and globally.
  • Flexibility - High level of interpersonal savvy, organizational agility, emotional intelligence and the ability to deal with ambiguity.
  • Ability to drive change management/ organizational transformation through collaboration and lateral leadership.
  • Results Oriented - delivers high impact and value in projects and initiatives.
  • Proven track record of taking initiative and operating in a pro-active manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative role, and independently when necessary.

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
