Amgen's 10-12 week internship program in Washington DC offers a unique experience to see first-hand how companies like Amgen work to improve patients' lives through public policy and advocacy. This internship provides competitive compensation and the opportunity to learn about different aspects of U.S. government affairs (e.g., federal and state), healthcare public policy, and a chance to work with our DC-based alliance development team.

DC-based alliance development, part of USGA&P, engages third party stakeholder on public policy and legislative priorities important to Amgen and the patients we serve.

To complete these projects, the intern will perform research and analyze healthcare and issues, generally and specific to the biopharmaceutical industry; collaborate with staff at Amgen headquarters via remote meetings; attend political and policy briefings, Congressional hearings and events with third party organizations, providing detailed summaries for USGA&P staff; coordinate and analyze databases; and prepare backgrounders and other materials as requested.

The intern will be assigned to complete some combination of the below projects:

  • Healthcare disparities in cardiovascular and osteoporosis care - Research the challenges and ways to improve and expand access/care for osteoporosis and cardiovascular patients in underserved communities. Review current public policy positions and third party efforts to help patients. Present findings to the office with the goal of packaging the information for Congress.
  • STEM programming in underserved communities - Research Congressional efforts to expand STEM educational opportunities for minority students. Examine the role of public/private partnerships, including Amgen's industry leading efforts, to improve STEM education.
