AveXis is advancing cutting-edge science, starting with our proprietary gene therapy for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). We are in the midst of an incredible journey and are looking for passionate individuals to join us on this important mission.

AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

AveXis is seeking a skilled histologist to process tissues for immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. This individual will function as a technical resource, performing all aspects of histology including tissue collection, processing and immunostaining with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tissue processing for histology and imaging.
  • Proper maintenance/tracking of collected samples and slides.
  • Evaluate antibody binding and optimize signal using a variety of methods including amplification and antigen retrieval techniques.
  • Generate data using fluorescence microscopy and whole slide scanners.
  • Analyze results and generate reports on assays performed.
  • Serve as technical resource, training and supervising other scientists in histology and equipment usage.
  • Manage equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Manage multiple project coordination.
  • Coordinate activities with project team members.


Qualifications

  • Min 2 years of experience in tissue processing, histological slide preparation, and immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent staining in mammalian tissues
  • Demonstrated proficiency in histology and complex tissue analysis.
  • Experience with histological examination of neuronal tissues, whole brain slices, and brain substructure evaluation preferred.
  • Experience with floating and mounted rodent sections required. Large animal experience is preferred.
  • Light and confocal microscopy experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related scientific discipline preferred.
