Principal Scientist / Associate Director of Biomarker Discovery
Synthorx is a pharmaceuticals biotechnology company using a novel synthetic biology platform for the discovery and development of transformational protein therapeutics. We are hiring an experienced, resourceful computational immunologist to lead the development and implementation of the strategies for the discovery an adoption of biomarkers for Synthorx's immune oncology and autoimmune disease therapeutic programs. Coordinate efforts of the Clinical and Research teams to identify mechanistic biomarkers of clinical response, as well as exploratory efforts for their application to response prediction and patient stratification. Also oversee support of preclinical development programs in collaboration with outside partners. Contribute to the overall design and execution of the biomarker strategy for research programs in the discovery portfolio, and to the formulation of rationale and plans for new targets for drug discovery. Duties & Responsibilities:
• Reporting to the Senior Director of Research, the successful candidate will lead internal and external efforts for clinical sample analysis of pharmacodynamics, safety and therapeutic response to Synthorx's clinical candidates, including profiling of blood (pharmacodynamics) and target tissues (therapeutic effect)
• Lead interactions with outside collaborators for clinical and preclinical sample analysis, including academic centers/HCPs and CROs
• Proven track record with the design and implementation of computational pipelines for analysis of samples via gene expression is a must. Experience with other high content platforms (proteomics, metabolomics, TCR/BCR clonality, and next-gen IHC (MS-assisted, high content imaging) is a plus
• Influence the construction and deployment of interfaces for data analysis that flexibly accommodate data from several workflows
• Oversee the preparation of technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and / or presentations
• While this position does not involve initially managerial duties, the successful candidate will eventually recruit talent to build a bioinformatics team to support both clinical and preclinical programs
Requirements:
• Doctoral degree or equivalent from an accredited institution, with five (5) years of direct experience with computational immunology programs
• Demonstrated knowledge in the area of biomarker discovery specific to the analysis of immune system function. Experience on autoimmune diseases and/or immune oncology is highly desirable
• Experience working with external computational biology partners is also highly desirable
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including cross-functional collaborative and communication
skills
• Demonstrated ability to work across teams to identify key scientific objectives and deploy appropriate
critical paths is a must. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment to accelerate strategic and project decision-making
