Job Description

The purpose of the Data Analytics Scientist position is gather and utilize data to increase the efficiency & performance of CSL Behring business operations and, concurrently, to increase patient access to CSL Behring's therapies. Data Analytics Scientist will accomplish these objectives by working closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify data to be leveraged, business metrics to examine and analyze, and define areas within manufacturing processes to reduce wastes. Data Analytics Scientist should be inquisitive, challenging, and skilled in applying a wide range of analytical techniques to business and technical problems. Data Analytics Scientist will obtain and work with a wide range of data sources across all Kankakee manufacturing areas. Data Analytics Scientist responsibilities within each analytical task include: scope and define analytical tasks in conjunction with SMEs; take the lead on writing, reviewing and managing documentation for each analytical task; plan and develop analytics tasks based on business and technical requirements; extract/obtain internal data relevant for analyses; build, test, and refine analytical models; update, upgrade and refresh analytical models; present results to Sr Management, Mfg Management and/or manufacturing SMEs; recommend courses of action for continuous improvement based on findings from analytical tasks. Data Analytics Scientist will support the global data analytics network across CSL.

1. Collaborate with Manufacturing Subject Matter Experts
  • Define and scope analytical tasks in conjunction with manufacturing SMEs or management
  • Write, review and manage documentation for each analytical tasks
  • Plan and develop analytics tasks based upon business and technical requirements
  • Work with manufacturing SMEs to understand data required to achieve objectives
  • Present milestone accomplishments to manufacturing SMEs and/or management teams within the site
  • Manage projects in conjunction with SMEs to ensure tasks deliver on the business requirements and priorities
  • Make recommendations for operational changes and improvements based on analytical findings
  • Consult with manufacturing SMEs and managers on implementing operational changes when required


2. Design and document the technical, data and process elements of analytical tasks
  • Translate business needs into the technical requirements for each task
  • Work with manufacturing SMEs to acquire relevant data for analyses
  • Develop and apply advanced analytical techniques & algorithms for analysis of large-scale, high-dimensional data across various business domains
  • Review project charters with SMEs, and relevant stakeholders to gain buy in and agreement on project approach and execution


3. Work as an actively contributing member of the global network of data analysts
  • Stay abreast of industry developments in technology and analytics
  • Stay current with latest research and technology ideas; share knowledge by clearly articulating results and ideas through papers and/or presentations to management and key decision makers
  • Share new knowledge with the network
  • Review/test code written by other's for critical feedback
  • Provide thorough and continuous documentation
  • Skilled in data visualization and communication


4. Work as an actively contributing member of the Community of Practice (AA&AI COP)
  • Share new knowledge with the COP/SME members
  • Develop and share analytical best practices


5. Innovation
  • Bring a fresh and unique perspective to analytical tasks
  • Use known techniques from other industries and apply those techniques to known challenges at CSL
  • Use a broad ensemble of data in novel ways to develop insights that can reduce waste and improve operations
  • Use open source, and new techniques and technologies to develop new insights


6. Foster a culture of continuous improvement through employee selection, training and mentoring while focusing on operational efficiency and the elimination of "non-value added" activities.

8. Complies with requirements from CSL Behring's Safety Program, including Health and Safety mandates and OSHA requirements.

9. Completes any other duties/responsibilities assigned by senior management.

EDUCATION:

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Engineering.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor of Science with at least 2 continuous years of non-academic experience
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and applications
  • Prior hands-on experience with QlikView, R, Python, MatLab and/or Statistica; other data mining and statistical applications may be considered based upon experience
  • Hands-on experience programming VBA (visual basic code) is preferred
  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical industry a plus
  • Strong verbal, technical writing and interpersonal skills are required; audit and Investigation skills a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
