Job Details

The R&D data scientist is mainly responsible for:
  • Defining and implementing strategy for data exploration, cleaning, extraction, and analysis in link with business & modelling questions and according to data sources (including internal data, Real World Data (RWD), external public or commercial information resources).
  • Actively contributing to all modelling & simulation efforts across Digital Biometry team and in narrow interaction with internal & external experts, including virtual patients populations initiative
  • Performing bioinformatics analysis on omics (genomics and transcriptomics mainly, metabolomics and proteomics possibly) or monitoring activities done by an external CROs.
  • Performing integrative statistical analysis to correlate results clinical data and multi-omics variables, to develop signatures used to stratify patients, monitor treatment efficacy or monitoring activities done by an external CROs.
  • Reporting findings with high standard communication skills, in an intelligible and strong focus on adding-value to R&D projects


He/She collaborates cross-functionally (within and outside Biometry) in understanding the needs & challenges in R&D projects, and all his/ her work is focused on delivering adding-value to Projects through an innovative & top-notch data-driven approach.

Responsibilities:
  • Participate actively, in the definition of data extraction & exploration strategy in close collaboration with stakeholders and other team members: i) clear understanding & scoping of the questions to be addressed, ii) identification of assumptions, proxy, and data filtering to design Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs) guaranteeing data quality, analysis confidence and real value to end-users.
  • Develop and implement methods & approaches for acquiring, cleaning, compiling, synthesizing, extracting and reporting information taking the full benefit of all internal & external available data, including RWD sources, as well as "indexation" platforms. Be bold, rigorous, pragmatic in methodologies development
  • Restitute results with clear explanations of assumptions and limits, in an intelligible & adapted manner with a strong R&D challenges focus
  • Be a leader in the definition of modelling & predictive approaches: i) clear understanding of the scientific & clinical challenges to be addressed, ii) identify modelling proxy & assumptions if needed, in particular according to data availability; iii) pro-active proposal of data exploration and modelling approaches taking into account constraints & objectives
  • Develop and implement modelling approaches: i) identify and test multiple approaches, including models parameters adjustments; ii) develop quality metrics allowing to evaluate & rank models performance; iii) iterative discussion with stakeholders & experts to select and improve best models, iv) provide expert recommendation regarding models to be selected
  • Document precisely all steps of the modelling approach, including assumptions, parameters adjustments
  • Collaborate closely with all experts in Biometry, data scientist team, pharmacometrics and external experts to cross-fertilize experience and boost the data science & modelling community
  • Be curious and stay up to date regarding all the evolutions of data science field
  • Contribute as dev team member to squads: i) actively listen and contribute to brainstorming & modelling strategy definition; ii) challenge objectives / ways of working, ask for clarification, iii) Execute specific data extraction and analysis with innovative and rigorous mindset; iv) Prepare and contribute to restitutions to stakeholders;
  • Act potentially as a Product Owner (PO) or Scrum Master (SM) in some squads to clearly understand the projects questions & challenges, restitute them to squad team and lead & engage the team in an iterative delivery cycle.
  • Contribute to feed the vision and next steps for each therapeutic area / products development. Demonstrate an "out of the box" spirit proposing approaches that are maybe not the current way to operate

Experience:
  • Ideal:
  • 5-6 yearsof experience in the pharmaceutical / biotech environment in a similar position or in a translational bioinformatics position (ability to understand the clinical development challenges is a must)
  • Strong experience in data extraction, cleaning and analysis as well as in predictive modelling (implementation & validation) areas is a must
  • Expertise in bioinformatics & data mining in order to manage multi-omics & clinical analysis
  • Ability to manage external CROs
  • Proficient in Python software engineering (pandas, Scikit-Learn)
  • Be comfortable in multiple coding languages (SAS, SQL, R, JMP,...)
  • Experience with NLP / Images Processing is a plus

  • Minimum:
  • Strong data science background, with demonstrated data analytical, modelling and reporting skills
  • Experience of working in a transversal, multidisciplinary, multisite environment
  • Understanding of clinical development challenges and process
  • Ability to manage external CROs

  • Qualification:
  • Ideal: Graduated in data science
  • Minimum: Graduated in data science or related fields
  • Language: English
