The Strategic Planning and Operations Director role covers a broad range of responsibilities, including support for strategic planning and change leadership needs for Amgen's Marketing Excellence group within U.S. Business Operations (USBO). This includes developing, driving and implementing brand team and leadership optimization initiatives. The role is a Director role, reporting to the Executive Director, Marketing Excellence, and is based out of our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA.

This role is expected to build trust-based partnerships with leaders and teams within the USBO organization, supporting the teams in capitalizing on new opportunities established through the Marketing Excellence team efforts in partnership with Brand teams. This includes helping brand teams organize and partner to develop and execute cross-functionally aligned strategies and related tactics that meaningfully support customer needs and positively impact patient's lives, while delivering growth. They will support ME leadership in driving key initiatives across dynamic brand planning, embedding the principles of customer engagement and agile principles , customer journey work, brand story development, and media/CRM. They will need to be well rounded marketer with experience across overall marketing processes yet with an eye for marketing of the future. Additionally, Organizational skills are critical as this role will be responsible for maintaining and governing ME budget Success should be demonstrated through well designed and tracked success metrics. The selected candidate will excel at working in a matrixed organization, possess strategic thinking skills and sound project management skills to develop, implement and support effective and efficient business operations.

In addition to Marketing Excellence, General Managers, Brand leaders and Brand teams, the Strategic Planning and Operations/Change Management Lead will partner with Human Resources, Global Learning and Performance and Finance professionals amongst others.

Responsibilities of the Strategic Planning and Operations Director include:
  • Partners closely with Marketing Excellence leadership to define and deliver key priorities
  • Leads team effectiveness and optimization programs taking organizational and team inter-dependencies into account
  • Partners with cross-functional leaders to shape and implement these programs
  • Leads and facilitates knowledge sharing workshops with cross-functional leaders
  • Partners with Learning & Performance to design and deliver training solutions for executive and other stakeholders
  • Leads and organizes Senior VP, General Manager, Executive Director and cross-functional brand team forums and workshops
  • Leads and organizes Marketing Excellence workshops, training and team meetings
  • Provides project leadership for driving transformation within USBO with principles of Customer collaboration and agile at the core
  • Creates and implements stakeholder engagement and communication plans
  • Establishes success metrics and leading indicators to monitor change implementation and effectiveness
  • Serves as lead for operational budget across Marketing Excellence
  • Champions and drives change
  • Helps design and build high-performing cross-functional teams
  • Influences peers and senior leaders
  • Manages complex, cross-functional projects
  • Integrates multiple points of view into a shared solution


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Organizational Design/Change Management/Strategic Planning experience

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of Organizational Design/Change Management/Strategic Planning experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Organizational Design/Change Management/Strategic Planning experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Commercial Operations or Marketing experience at Amgen
  • MBA
  • 8+ years' experience of organizational design and change management and/or project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and influencing leaders and teams
  • Direct experience on a Global Team or Regional / Local Brand Team
  • Direct experience with developing brand strategies, regional brand plans, or brand execution plans
  • Informed with current biopharmaceutical industry knowledge, news and trends and able to apply to programs
  • Deep organizational skills and detail orientation
  • Highly structured and strong ability to translate complex data/information into simple, actionable insights
  • Independent, motivated, team member with experience in a matrix environment
  • Communicates effectively and demonstrates impact influencing others
  • Experience with project leadership in addition to strong project management skills
  • Adaptable, and thrives in a changing environment
  • Comfortable with ambiguous work assignments and accomplished managing change in a complex, matrix organization
  • Able to foster trusted relationships with key partners within brands and other cross-functional partners
