The successful candidate will have broad responsibilities as a Drug Discovery Working Group Biology Leader guiding a matrix team of scientists from various disciplines in pursuit of novel molecular targets and innovative therapies for heart failure.

The successful candidate is expected to be a go-to person for all scientific questions around the programs they lead by by staying up to date on the latest preclinical and clinical research in the field and to assist in gathering competitive intelligence. In accordance with approved publication and presentation plans, the Senior Principal Scientist will be expected to write manuscripts, contribute to regulatory documents and present research at scientific conferences.

The Senior Principal Scientist will also have associate scientist reporting directly to them in order to perform bench research in support of the goals of the individual laboratory and the drug discovery working group. Within their group, the Senior Principal Scientist will be expected to organize their scientists in an effective manner, oversee the setting of individual goals and maintain open and regular communications.

Leading a matrix team of PhD and non-PhD scientists to:

1) Explore the basic biology of heart failure

2) Identify and validate new therapeutic targets

3) Oversee the design, build and optimization of suites of assays and animal models to support lead identification and optimization

4) To forge strong relationships in a team setting with peers in adjacent areas of Drug Discovery including medicinal chemistry, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, toxicology, pharmaceutics and protein sciences, etc to identify and characterize novel molecular entities suitable for clinical trials. This includes setting program goals, recommending cross-portfolio priorities and deploying resources to successfully meet the objectives.
