Summary
The successful candidate will lead oligonucleotide conjugation chemistry, purification, and characterization of oligo conjugates and other chemistries. The scientist will be required to independently assist in all aspects of design and synthesis of small molecules for conjugate use and rationally implement the knowledge gained from iterative rounds of medicinal chemistry to drive projects forward.
Responsibilities
• Design and implement novel conjugation and characterization methods involving oligonucleotides and other novel small molecules.
• Design and implement a variety of regio-selective conjugations, lead and perform conjugation, purification, and characterization of conjugates for preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies.
• Design and implement novel oligonucleosides for solid phase synthesis.
• Drive projects forward using successive rounds of medicinal chemistry.
• Collaborate with cross-functional research teams and external CRO teams to prioritize and deliver conjugates from screening to candidate selection.
• Lead efforts in technology transfer related to conjugation/purification/analysis from discovery to process development.
• Prepare presentations and communicate conjugation and characterization efforts to related project teams.
Experience with the following additional skills and experience is a plus:
• Solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis
• On or off bead oligo functional group conversion chemistries
• Large scale conjugation and characterization to support pilot toxicology studies
• Protein engineering and expression in bacterial and eukaryotic systems
Requirements
This position requires a Ph.D. in chemistry and at least 7 years of industry experience in the conjugates/small molecule field.
• Extensive research experience and knowledge to design and develop novel conjugates and conjugation methods.
• Hands on experience with conjugation, purification and characterization of conjugates, and experience using analytical techniques/instruments, including chromatographic techniques such as HIC (Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography) and RP (Reverse Phase), SEC, SDS-PAGE, UV-Vis, mass spectroscopy, and NMR.
