Scientist (Analytical, Drug Product)

Summary: Provides scientific support for the design and development of robust drug product processes that enable the delivery of life transforming medications to patients globally. The individual will pursue an understanding of the physical and chemical phenomena underlying the performance of the drug product process from freeze/thaw through filling and inspection and will be part of a team responsible for industrialization, troubleshooting, and validation of drug product processes at manufacturing sites, both international and domestic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide science-based predictions of process behavior and risk to enable rational implementation of drug product processes at internal and external sites. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute drug product process development and technology transfer activities.

• Pursue an understanding of drug product process behavior through evaluation of existing data, published literature, and design of experimental strategies. Develop a predictive understanding of drug product process behavior.

• Apply current theory in chemistry, physics, biochemistry, mathematics, or other disciplines to solve specific problems within the drug product process, seeking assistance from external sources as needed.

• Act as an expert reviewer for all technical documents authored by cross-functional teams, author technical documents as needed.

• Support primary component selection and design by reviewing technical data and designing experimental strategies for evaluation.

• Support product life-cycle initiatives.

• Support process investigations, primarily by seeking scientific/technical root causes and guiding accompanying laboratory activities. Assist with product impact assessment for change controls and internal/external investigations as needed.

• Maintain an awareness of industry-wide trends in drug product process technology and performance. Maintain an awareness of regulatory initiatives and guidance relating to drug product performance. Communicate relevant learnings to cross-functional teams.

• Continuously drive to improve processes for improved performance

• Up to 20% Travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

• Scientist: PhD in chemistry, physics, biology, biochemistry, mathematics or other natural or technical science with 0+ years industry experience.

• Senior Scientist: PhD in chemistry, physics, biology, biochemistry, mathematics or other natural or technical science with 2+ years industry experience.

• A background in aseptic processing, drug product development, or pharmaceutical development is preferred, but not required.
