Senior Associate of Strategy

Amgen is seeking a Senior Associate of Strategy to be based out of our Thousand Oaks, CA global headquarters and who will report to the Executive Director of Innovation & Strategic Partnerships.

This Senior Associate of Strategy will work on a specialized team that monitors the macro-environment for potentially disruptive technologies and trends in the healthcare industry. The team investigates technologies across the healthcare value chain, with a focus in new therapeutic modalities, other R&D technologies, and Digital Health. The incumbent will canvas the marketplace, analyze the data, and then assist senior management in prioritizing critical long-term issues for the company.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Associate of Strategy:

• Provides analysis of critical strategic problems facing the company over the medium and long-term time horizons
• Assess new technologies and develop strategies to implement them in current workflows
• Prepares and presents both presentations and memos to senior management
• Provides support on special projects with discretion
• Interfaces with stakeholders and sponsors on project progress, issues, and plans for resolution
• Attending conferences to meet and evaluate companies developing novel technologies

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree
OR
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Business Development and/or Analytical experience
OR
Associate's degree and 6 years of Business Development and/or Analytical experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Business Development and/or Analytical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Majored in Biology or Healthcare related field or has experience working within the biopharmaceutical industry
• Self-starter and highly motivated
• Demonstrated ability to generate initial hypotheses for problems individually or collaboratively
• Demonstrated ability to mine a variety of databases and generate data to support or deny a hypothesis
• Demonstrated experience with financial modeling and statistics preferred
• Ability to interview senior technical and commercial leaders to provide additional directions to investigate, or add, additional color to an analysis
• Capacity to generate slides individually that can provide simple, clear visualizations of complex situations, and draft memos that clearly communicate material concisely
• Demonstrated ability to be highly organized
• Positive attitude and demonstrated flexibility in-prioritizing projects
• Organizational savvy and presence to build effective relationships across functions
• Familiarity with databases and highly proficient in use of MS Office tools including MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word and MS Project
