THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Your key responsibilities:

  • Leading the DuPont Microbial Control (DMC) teams in developing and driving intellectual capital strategies and goals aligned with business strategy.
  • Active participation in project teams and complex problem solving to expand DMC’s technology position through new technology and application development.
  • Leading new technology scouting for applications through intellectual property, market, and competitive analysis and identifying opportunities for technology development that are aligned with business strategy.
  • Creating a robust intellectual capital culture,  ensuring that leaders & members are aware of intellectual capital strategy, intellectual property positions, tools and their roles/responsibilities for creating, defending, managing, enforcing and monetizing intellectual property.
  • Identifying strategic intellectual asset opportunities that will sustain differentiation and protect future value, e.g. white space filings, in-licensing/purchasing intellectual property.
  • Identifying strategic opportunities to out-license DuPont intellectual property.
  • Leading the analysis of identified new technology and market opportunities and developing recommendations on those opportunities in collaboration with marketing and project teams.
  • Integrating intellectual capital/property planning, strategy, and goals into the early stages of projects and ensuring that these plans stay relevant and are followed through to commercialization.
  • Identifying opportunities for applying inventions beyond original scope and expanding value, including leveraging across technology platforms.
  • Partnering with inventors and DuPont attorneys to secure disclosures, patent filings, patent grants, oppositions, freedom-to-practice; support litigation and infringement detection.
  • Collaborating with project leaders, legal, and intellectual property focal points to deliver effective intellectual property training.
  • Mentoring and coaching DMC scientists on best practices related to generating and applying new ideas to generate intellectual property, protecting new technology and products, assessing right-to-practice, and attacking competitive positions.
  • Contributing new and innovative ideas as a technical project team leader and/or member.

Job Qualifications

Your qualification profile:Required Qualifications

  • A passion for intellectual capital strategy.
  • Ph.D. in a biological science, chemistry, or chemical engineering (preference for combined experience in biochemistry and small molecule organic chemistry).
  • A minimum of 3 years of post-PhD technical experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple geographies.
  • Good influencing and coaching skills necessary to drive team alignment of goals and accountabilities in order to meet IP and business objectives.
  • Ability to work at the interface of chemistry, engineering, and biological science disciplines.
  • Relevant experience with intellectual capital.  For example, the candidate may have experienced one or more of the following:  developing invention disclosures, working with attorneys to draft patent applications, assessing prior art for disclosure development or white space identification, serving as a subject matter expert for opposition preparation or participating in the development of joint development or licensing agreements.
  • Ability to research, analyze and design experiments that lead to valuable intellectual property.Preferred Qualifications• A strong background in biological sciences and or biotechnology.
  • Prior experience in an application development role.
  • Ability to carryout intellectual property searches based on complex search strategies.
  • Ability to carryout intellectual property searches based on molecular structure.
  • Track record of successful commercial delivery of new technology and technology improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and energize teams and mentor junior scientists.
  • A proven track record of original research contributions, including experience in external publications.
