The successful candidate will play a critical role in the development of the Scientific Communications, Medical Review, & Knowledge Management function within Pharmacyclics. Scientific Communications, Medical Review, & Knowledge Management, within the Medical Affairs department, works closely with various functional areas within the organization to communicate accurate, consistent, and timely information regarding products and therapeutic areas. This includes contributing to clinical development initiatives and scientific exchange materials, review of promotional and medical materials for scientific content, creation of the Scientific Communications infrastructure, and internal communication of emerging insights and research evolving in the scientific and medical communities. This position will be responsible for fostering a positive relationship between the Scientific Communications, Medical Review, & Knowledge Management department and other functional areas in Medical Affairs and other departments in the organization. This position will report to Associate Scientific Director, Scientific Communications.

Major Key Job Duties / Accountabilities / Core Responsibilities: (Include % Time)

Instructions:
  • Identify major key job duties/responsibilities (3-5) and Describe in detail associated & related tasks/actions.
  • Responsible for reviews across commercial and medical affairs / medical communications materials (PRC/CCRC/CMRC) in assigned therapeutic area(s)
  • Maintains expert understanding of product knowledge and labeling, associated disease states, relevant literature, treatment guidelines, competitor information, and marketing strategies and tactics for assigned therapeutic area(s). As necessary, assumes responsibility for diverse and/or complex projects regardless of therapeutic area.
  • In an independent manner, critically evaluates literature, interprets complex data, writes effectively, articulates information to a variety of audiences, and effectively negotiates with counterparts from cross-divisional functional areas.
  • Functions independently in timely decision-making while considering the broader impact to the organization. Confidently executes on and communicates decisions and rationale.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to internal customers or appropriate stakeholders to provide them with timely up-to-date scientific and clinical information necessary to make impactful business decisions. Serves as subject matter expert on both general and specific Medical Review practices and provides executable recommendations to senior stakeholders as needed.
  • Independently anticipates risk and implements strategies to avoid potential problems. Independently resolves higher risk or complex issues having the potential for financial, legal or regulatory implications. When appropriate, elevates to ASD of SciComm
  • Lead the development and delivery of medical content for communication tools for field medical use, including but not limited to proactive and reactive slides decks, clinical FAQs, and pipeline/study support tools. Responsible for providing general medical trainings on field medical tools.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with other functional groups to cultivate a positive relationship
  • Manages and prioritizes multiple projects, provides solutions to complex problems, and completes projects within deadlines
  • Assists with key Scientific Communications/Knowledge management projects, medical strategy activities, and performs other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, etc.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively, coordinate, and lead in a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team environment
  • Experience in literature searches, literature evaluation, and drug information concepts
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, team player, able to take initiatives and act independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of the legal and regulatory environment of pharmaceutical industry desired
  • Prior Medical Review and payer/HEOR experience preferred


Experience:

  • 2+ years of prior Medical Review in pharmaceutical/biotech experience preferred
  • Experience with payers/HEOR preferred

Education Requirements (degree, certifications, etc.):
  • Bachelor's degree, graduation from an accredited Nursing program, PA, PharmD, PhD in Health Sciences, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • 4 years of combined licensed clinical practice experience, postgraduate training, and/or postgraduate pharmaceutical industry experience with 2 years' work experience or postgraduate training in Medical Communications or related Medical Affairs experience preferred.

  • No direct or indirect headcount

  • All Scientific Communications, Medical Review, & Knowledge Management team members: Managers, Sr Managers, Associate Director, Head (daily to weekly)
  • Regulatory team members: Coordinator, Manager, Associate Director (daily to weekly)
  • Commercial team members: Product Manager, Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Senior Director (weekly)


Decision Making Authority / Discretion:

  • Candidate will be able to make independent decisions with the option to escalate if needed
