The Discovery Technologies department at our Cambridge, Massachusetts location is looking for an undergraduate interested in a 6-month co-op placement. The Co-op - R&D (Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism) will support the drug transporter team on a project which will focus on establishing and validating transporter inhibitory studies that will help understand the potential of small molecules to generate clinically relevant drug-drug interactions. The co-op will work closely with experienced transporter scientists to design and conduct transporter inhibition experiments and analyze and interpret the study results. With this role, the co-op will have an opportunity to work on a variety of cell-based assays and explore routinely used methodologies to assess the perpetrator potential of small molecules. The co-op will also gain experience in applying the study data to FDA recommended models to evaluate the likeness of small molecules to exhibit drug-drug interactions in a clinical setting.

Amgen Cambridge's Dept. of Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism (PKDM) seeks a qualified co-op with the following job responsibilities:
  • Culture and maintain transporter over expressing cell lines.
  • Evaluate transporter inhibitory effects of small molecules using a variety of cell-based radioactive assays.
  • Troubleshoot assays and provide solutions to resolve technical gaps and methodologies, if any.


Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Life Sciences, Biology, Bioengineering or related fields

Knowledge in cell culture and cell-based assays

Experience with radiometric assays and analysis

Experience in implementing, optimizing and troubleshooting cell-based assays

Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills
