Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

These positions are in Transgenic Biology and In Vivo Engineering within Embryology & IVF in Tarrytown, NY. There are 2 openings for Spring AND Summer 2020 (full time, about 7 months from January to August 2020). The positions are listed below:

Position 1:
This position is for a student interested in Genome Capture. We are seeking a student who will help to optimize methods to capture large sequences from genomic DNA. Specifically, we will be working with Cas9 nuclease in yeast to excise a specific sequence of interest from the genome and allow the natural recombination machinery of the yeast to incorporate the fragment into a receiver plasmid. The student will culture yeast for spheroplasting, PCR QC of candidates, and validation of capture by Pulse-Field Electrophoresis and MinION sequencing. There is no validated protocol for these procedures and we hope to have a student help to evaluate strategies. Knowledge of yeast culture, basic molecular biology skills, and Cas9 will be a benefit, but not essential.

Position 2:
This position is for a student interested in Evaluation of site-specific nucleases. The VG Tech team is working to validate new nucleases for genome engineering. While Cas9 is widely used in the community, we would like to evaluate alternative species that have novel characteristics that may offer alternative/improved methods for making genetic alterations. This role will involve a great deal of mammalian cell culture. Additionally, RNA/DNA extraction, NGS evaluation, real-time quantitative PCR techniques will be employed. Knowledge of any of these techniques will be helpful.
