ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, REVENUE AND GROSS MARGIN

Job Summary:

Global Blood Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking an Associate Director of Revenue and Gross Margin who would be an integral part of the growing accounting team that is approaching commercialization. This position would be responsible for accounting for the Company's product revenue and Gross Margin, including gross-to-net calculations and SOX compliance. The candidate should have a forward-thinking approach to efficient accounting processes, have experience partnering with operations and commercial teams, and be able to work independently to drive questions to resolution. This individual must be able to analyze financial information and prepare monthly revenue and Gross Margin reports.

A successful individual should have the ability to effectively multi-task, prioritize work, demonstrate accountability, and meet established deadlines. The ideal candidate will have strong operational experience who enjoys a fast-paced, pre-commercial to commercial environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for preparing the gross-to-net calculations and calculating and supporting the assumptions used in the calculations
  • Ownership and execution of month-end revenue and gross margin close process activities, including preparation and review of journal entries and reconciliations
  • Responsible for ASC 606 data accumulation and financial reporting to support the SEC reporting of any revenue-related reporting matters, including information required for disclosures
  • Establish strong partnerships with internal departments: Commercial and Manufacturing Operations to maintain efficient and scalable processes and external vendors. This includes but not limited to: System Data Aggregators; Trade & Distribution Network data
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliation reviews to ensure accurate reporting and general ledger maintenance
  • Identifies, designs and proposes ways to streamline processes to be more efficient, accurate and scalable
  • Assist in policy development, audit, process improvements, and software implementation as necessary
  • Prepare summarized month end reporting for the senior management team such as but not limited to special revenue and gross margin related projects
  • Self-motivated and accountable. Ability to work independently. Ability to resolve unexpected issues as they arise
  • Take on additional duties and ad-hoc projects as required
  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes Oxley requirements (SOX) for financial statements


Qualifications:

 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, Accounting or Finance
  • 10+ years of experience, preferably a mix of public accounting experience and revenue and gross margin accounting experience with a definite plus in biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • In depth knowledge of GAAP and SEC rules and regulations
  • In depth knowledge of SOX requirements
  • Required CPA; Big 4 is a plus
  • Experience working in a publicly-traded, high-growth biotech company preferred
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite knowledge, including strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Proficiency with accounting software and experience working in ideally NetSuite (or other Enterprise ERP system)
  • A committed team player, detail oriented and an effective communicator
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
