AveXis is advancing cutting-edge science, starting with our proprietary gene therapy for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). We are in the midst of an incredible journey and are looking for passionate individuals to join us on this important mission.

AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

AveXis is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to assist in the adherence to all Federal, State and Local requirements and AveXis policies, strategies, initiatives and goals. The programs supervised by this position may include but are not limited to: EHS compliance, prevention, training, and support. This position assists in assessing and managing key EHS risks which impact the site's operations. In addition, this role provides technical guidance and support to the site where applicable to maintain compliance with federal, state and local regulations and will assist in external regulatory agency inspections/communications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation and administration of AveXis' overall Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Provide technical information and specialized training related to safety and health risks covered under OSHA regulations and/or other applicable laws and safe work practices.
  • Participate in the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans related to EHS.
  • Participate in formal reviews of existing equipment modifications, new equipment purchases, and changes in site processes to assess potential EHS impacts.
  • Facilitate EHS training planning, needs, development and delivery.
  • Provide a full range of EHS support services for production, laboratory, facilities and administrative support organizations.
  • Identify and control EHS hazards in the workplace including chemical, biological, physical and environmental.
  • Provide interpretation and guidance to staff for EHS programs.
  • Assist with risk management activities such as hazard analyses and safe operating procedures.
  • Develop and implement workplace exposure monitoring plans.
  • Conduct EHS inspections, audits and oversight assessments.
  • Review safety and health regulations and update policies and procedures as directed.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental, Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Functional knowledge in regulatory requirements, technical aspects, training, auditing / program review, regulatory agency enforcement, EHS consultant management.
  • Cultivate employee commitment to a high-performance culture.
  • Strong communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and influence management skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks without losing momentum.
