These positions are in Ophthalmology within Therapeutic Focus Areas in Tarrytown, NY. There are 5 openings for Summer 2020. Each opening is described below.

Position 1:
The student will perform molecular and cell biological laboratory work to support a range of ongoing projects. In particular, this student will be responsible for performing various in vitro assays to validate targets for gene therapy projects. This student will also have the opportunity to learn cell culture, western blot, histology, and microscopy techniques.

Position 2:
The Ophthalmology R&D group is looking for a motivated summer intern to support in vivo studies of new drug candidates for the eye. This student must be highly motivated to learn state-of-the-art techniques, assist in animal procedures, perform tissue stains, be hardworking, flexible and organized.

Position 3:
This student will work on image analysis and quantification of data for an eye disease model in rats for therapeutic target discovery and validation for a common blindness caused by age-related macular degeneration. This student will also learn some basic biology of the eye and the retina, and help conduct some lab testing on complement factor expression in the normal and diseased eyes of rats, by using immunohistochemistry and protein expression at different time points, for the discovery of new targets in the development of age-related macular degeneration and other eye diseases.

Position 4:
This student will be involved in studies that involve the mechanisms of pathological eye conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration. Potential summer projects will involve immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and immunology.

Position 5:
This student will perform molecular and cell biological laboratory work to support a range of ongoing projects. In particular, this student will be responsible for molecular cloning of different genes, CRISPR guides into plasmids to support gene therapy projects. This student will also have the opportunity to learn cell culture, western blot and microscopy techniques.

Position 1, 4, & 5:

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree

• Must be pursuing a degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related discipline

• Desired technical skills include, but are not limited to, basic laboratory techniques

Position 2:

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree

• Must be pursuing a degree in Biology, Neurobiology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, or related discipline

• Desired technical skills include, but are not limited to, tissue sectioning and staining, basic microscopy skills, computer literacy, animal handling is a plus

Position 3:

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree

• Must be pursuing a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or related discipline

• Desired technical skills include, but are not limited to, Completed AP biology courses, good knowledge of biology, experience with computer image software, and Excel sheet. Motivated to do eye research lab work

General Intern Program Information:

• Must be enrolled in, or accepted to, an academic program pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or PharmD

• Summer Program is full-time (~40 hrs/wk) for at least 10 weeks and is paid

• Prefer demonstrated leadership in areas such as campus activities, clubs, sports or the community

• Minimum GPA of 3.0

• You will work with a specific manager on a project(s)

• Enjoy weekly 1 hour Intern Program events: learn about other areas of the company from VPs and other employees, soft skills workshops, networking, volunteering, and more!

• Present to your team on your summer project

• Housing stipend available for those students who meet mileage requirements

• A free shuttle is offered from the North White Plains or Tarrytown train stations to the Tarrytown, NY or Sleepy Hollow, NY campuses
