The successful candidate will be innovative, team-oriented, working with transparency and integrity to take early stage small molecule hits, turn them into a lead candidates and ultimately a clinical candidate. The research group provides an ideal environment in which to see the process of drug discovery, being an integral member of the chemistry group as well as seeing and being involved in the biology and pharmacokinetic aspects of the project.

The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic chemistry group that is able to adapt rapidly to new project priorities and has a genuine curiosity for science. One needs to be comfortable with techniques in synthetic organic chemistry – executing reactions, isolating and analyzing products – with the ability to communicate the results of the laboratory to both chemistry and the research group more generally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops novel and efficient synthesis, coordinates research strategies and activities with team members and conducts the synthesis of complex target molecules Will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team towards the project goals Designs synthetic targets for lead discovery and optimization to address issues of target potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics, and in vivo efficacy Utilizes contemporary structure-based methods, structure-activity relationships, and medicinal chemistry principles to propose and execute innovative chemistry strategies Uses literature and database searches to design and execute synthetic routes to chemical targets Maintains a current understanding chemical literature – synthesis, medicinal chemistry and methodology, as well as general scientific curiosity Keeps an accurate, comprehensible and concise notebook Represents own research to chemistry group and research more generally
