Job Description

Our Research Scientists are our Inventors. We identify and target steps in disease mechanisms or pathways that could be inhibited or enhanced. Our goal is to isolate a compound that is effective against a disease target. Using innovative thinking, state-of-the-art facilities and robust scientific methodology we collaborate to discover the next medical breakthrough.

The Cytometric Profiling group at our Company's Research & Development Division in South San Francisco is seeking a PhD scientist to lead the new mass cytometry profiling effort for preclinical oncology and non-oncology discovery programs.  Because our group manages the FACS core lab, this position also requires the candidate to have expertise in flow cytometry acquisition and analysis.

Our group is involved in both forward and reverse translational studies, performing immunophenotyping and developing a wide range of primary cell-based assays using fresh tissues of human, non-human primate, or murine origin. Experience with cell sorting is also highly desired, as cell sorting and downstream mRNA profiling (bulk or single-cell) is a mainstay of our profiling capabilities. The candidate will work with program team members as well as with other intradepartmental groups to contribute data for regulatory filings of the many new therapeutics entering the clinic. Importantly, this position requires a candidate who has excellent oral and written communication skills and who will enjoy working with a large group of scientists.

Education Minimum Requirement

  • Minimum of a PhD in Immunology, Biology, Biochemistry, or relevant discipline plus 0-3 years of industry experience

Required Experience and Skills

  • Experience with Mass Cytometry using the CyTOF technology
  • Experience with Flow Cytometry, preferably with BD Biosciences flow cytometers and acquisition software
  • Expertise in Mass Cytometry and Flow Cytometry panel design
  • Proficiency with high-dimensional data analytical methods such as tSNE, viSNE, CITRUS, FlowSOM, etc.
  • Immunology background
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications on the Windows operating system

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Cell sorting (FACS)
  • Cell preparation for single cell RNA-sequencing
  • Ex vivo functional assays such as proliferation, phospho-flow, or intracellular cytokine staining
  • Proficiency with TIBCO Spotfire
