Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

This position is in Oncology Angiogenesis in Tarrytown, NY. There is 1 position for Spring AND Summer (full time, about 7 months from January to August 2020).

For the past several years, immunotherapy of cancer has revolutionized our treatment modalities, given rise to deep and durable responses in certain subsets of cancer patients. T cells, in particular, play an essential role in this process. Macrophages and dendritic cells are the innate component of the immune system, capable of engulfing tumor cells and cross-present tumor antigens in a most efficient way to activate tumor antigen-specific T cells. However, the phagocytic activity of macrophages and dendritic cells is elegantly regulated by the strengths of "eat-me" (pro-phagocytic) signals and "don't-eat-me" (anti-phagocytic) signals. One of the mechanism for tumor cells to evade immune system is to up-regulate "don't-eat-me" signals, therefore escaping from immune surveillance by innate immune cells and subsequently by tumor antigen-specific T cells.

This project aims to: 1) search for / validate addidional "don't-eat-me" signals; 2) determine how to further enhance phagocytosis of hematoloic tumors and solid tumors by combination of different "eat-me" signals and blocking different "don't-eat-me" signals.
