Job Details

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases.

These positions are in Protein Biochemistry in Tarrytown, NY. There are 2 positions for Spring AND Summer (full time, about 7 months from January to August 2020). Each opening is described below.

Position 1:
The project focus will be the development and optimization of critical reagents and material inventory systems maintained in the Protein Biochemistry laboratory to facilitate and improve transfer of materials and supporting information that need to be captured by our inventory management system.

Protein Biochemistry receives samples from various other departments, external collaborators, as well as purified within the group with the associated critical attributes/information coming from various entities and systems. We also then distribute samples throughout the company to support various functions. This project will involve helping to transition our group into a biobank for automated high volume sample storage and distribution as well as focused laboratory tasks for a holistic view/experience of our inventory systems and general laboratory operations to evaluate and propose improvements to overall efficiency and reagent information gathering/dissemination.

Laboratory tasks include but are not limited to; 1) operating our automated liquid handler to aliquot bulk sample for distribution and testing throughout the company, 2) interfacing our sample workflow with the biobank to create a seamless flow of physical samples along with the critical information and 3) documentation from sample receipt through aliquot, storage, database entry, and distribution, 4) the management of reagent receipt through entering and barcoding reagents in our electronic reagent receipt log, and 5) organizing particular areas of the lab to facilitate workflow.

Student will be trained on our automated liquid handler, electronic laboratory notebook, protein LIMS database, and our sample workflow that produces high volumes of available samples for end users in an automated high-throughput manner, utilizing our electronic systems to track sample lineage and deliver all critical sample information direct to end user experiments with a single barcode scan.

Position 2:
This position will provide an opportunity to work in the Protein Biochemistry involved in extended characterization of protein therapeutics. This position will primarily focus on host cell proteins (HCPs). The individual will assist in developing methods such as 2D-DIGE, 2DIBE, ELISA, and CE-western to detect and quantitate HCPs from process samples. The co-op student will also work on titer determination using ELISA, purifying antibodies from serum using multiple column chromatography techniques and assist in developing robust process-specific total host cell protein assays.
