The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks exceptional applicants with bioinformatics experience for a health scientist position in the Office of Genomics and Advanced Technologies (OGAT), Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID). DMID supports extramural research to control and prevent diseases caused by virtually all human infectious agents except HIV. OGAT serves as a lead office for administering and coordinating genomics-, bioinformatics-, and emerging technologies-related programs, initiatives, and activities within DMID. OGAT also provides expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, and emerging technologies to promote their use to enhance the study of infectious diseases, generate new data sets and knowledge of pathogen and infectious disease, and develop new and improved diagnostics, vaccines, and therapeutics.

As a health scientist, you will serve as an authoritative senior project manager, consultant, and advisor to management, scientific, and program staff regarding bioinformatics, data science, and technology solutions; lead the development and promulgation of international policies and procedures to implement bioinformatics and genomics solutions; and evaluate user needs to develop recommendations for methodologies and systems to gather, store, and analyze diverse data sets.

Qualifications

You must have successfully completed a course of study leading to an advanced degree in a medical field, health sciences, or allied health sciences appropriate to this position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).

Applicants should also have one year of experience in project management including overseeing research, fiscal, and administrative responsibilities for a research/development project or for an organization.
