Amgen is seeking a Business Performance Senior Manager at our corporate campus located in Thousand Oaks, California. This role will report directly to the VP of Final Product Quality & Surveillance. The Final Product Quality & Surveillance is a newly formed group as part of our organization strengthening to ensure we provide the appropriate level of quality oversight to our combination products.

The final product Quality & Surveillance group provides quality oversight for centralized end to end of final product and product surveillance. End to end quality oversight includes all final product stages including combination product design, design transfer, supplier quality, providing direct links between product complaints, manufacturing operations and adverse events.

This role helps its respective functions implement programmatic systems and processes, advance organizational capability development, and execute projects aligned with the functions' strategic objectives to ensure long term success through continuous improvement and transformational capabilities.

The Business Performance Senior Manager will independently develop Final Product Quality & Surveillance (FPQ & Surveillance) planning and scheduling management systems to consistently deliver on-time and anticipate headcount constraint triggered by new projects and initiatives. This role will apply advanced and diverse engineering principles, including Operational Excellence methodologies, to the design and implementation of major system/process modifications, and/or capital projects. The Business Performance Senior Manager develops, organizes, analyzes and presents interpretation of results for operational issues or engineering projects of significant scope and complexity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops, implements and maintains a scheduling/planning management system.
  • Analyzes critical path and constraints to determine effect of changes to schedules and recommend work-around.
  • Applies knowledge of Operational Excellence principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
  • Identifies ways to improve (FPQ & Surveillance) processes to ensure the highest quality, lowest cost and shortest lead time.
  • Supports leadership in analysis of operations, planning of activities, new product introductions, new technologies, and implementation of improvement projects.
  • Performs resources gap analyses, develops novel strategies and plans to close these gaps, and drives the execution of the plans.
  • Conducts analysis to determine alternative courses of action or recovery on slipped schedules.
  • Interact successfully with Internal/External Customers, Managers, Operations Leaders, Financial Representatives and FPQ & Surveillance Leaders and Staff during execution of plans, new initiatives, and routine tasks.
  • Conducts studies in FPQ & Surveillance areas and evaluates processes to maximize work flows and spatial utilization.
  • Recommends improvements, develops business cases and capability studies, and presents proposals to management.
  • Implements new and enhanced processes and tools.
  • Follows and observes all regulatory requirements applicable to area of responsibility. Serves as a peer-recognized engineering technology specialist in at least one area, with overall responsibility for determining methodologies in that area.
  • Prompt and regular attendance to workplace.
  • Work with cross-functional departments in developing requirements and recommendations for large and/or highly complex system/process modifications.
  • Work with project managers to complete design and engineering projects within schedule, budget and quality constraints.
  • Provide monthly report and management review for FPQ & Surveillance in coordinating with area leaders.


Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Engineering or Science experience

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of Engineering or Science experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Engineering or Science experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Engineering or Science experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Engineering or Science experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or Science
  • Familiarity with FPQ & Surveillance processes
  • Familiarity with documentation in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to interpret and apply GLPs and SMPs
  • Strong experience in Lean, Six Sigma DMAIC, and other Operational Excellence methodologies (i.e., waste identification, Kaizen, etc.)
  • 5+ years of cross‐functional consulting, project management, and/or Liaison experience
  • Experience at a top tier Management Consulting Firm
  • Strong presence with Senior Executives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive‐level discussion documents
  • Excellent conceptual problem‐solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles
  • Experience as a member of a high performing team
