Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and results-oriented Research Associate to join our dynamic Neuroscience research team. Team members work both collaboratively and independently to study new therapeutic strategies for treating serious neurological disorders including neurodegenerative disorders and chronic pain. Job responsibilities include designing and using cell-based assays and preclinical behavioral assessments to support the development of novel therapeutics. In addition, successful candidate will work to support technology development for improving the delivery of therapeutics into the nervous system as we strive to innovate new approaches to treating neurological diseases.

Responsibilities:

• Construct cell-based assays for studying mechanisms of neurological disorders and for conducting initial evaluations of novel therapeutic strategies.

• Develop and evaluate new animal models of disease, as needed

• Design and perform behavioral assessments in animal models of pain and/or neurological diseases

• Characterize the efficacy of novel therapeutics using in vivo animal models or in vitro assays

• Compare various administration routes for novel therapeutics (intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, intracerebroventricular, and intrathecal)

• Support technology development, including the development of innovative delivery modalities for targeting therapeutics to specific cell types in the nervous system

• Engage in technical trouble shooting with minimal supervision

• Dissect tissues (DRGs, trigeminal ganglia, sympathetic ganglia, spinal cord, and different regions of the brain) and conduct downstream assays such as RNAseq, RNAscope, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and/or western blotting to evaluate efficacy or distribution

• Compile data, perform advanced data analyses, prepare graphs/tables, and present results at internal meetings

• Keep up-to-date and well-organized records of experiments

Requirements:

Bachelor or MS degree in Neuroscience with 2-3 years experience

• Tissue dissection (DRG, trigeminal ganglion, sympathetic ganglion, spinal cord and different regions of the brain) for downstream assays such as RNAseq, RNAscope, Elisa, IHC or WB

• Intraperitoneal, intracerebroventricular and intrathecal injections experience required

• Experience with neurological and/or pain behavioral assessments required

• viral gene delivery experience a plus

• immunocytochemistry & immunohistochemistry a plus

• Experience with western blotting and Elisa required

• Basic molecular biology laboratory skills

• Ability to work independently

• Excellent communication skills
