Amgen is seeking a Director of Information Systems (IS) and Automation - RI Site Lead will be responsible for leading the IS and Automation organization for our state-of-the-art Rhode Island facility. The Director reports to the Vice President of Site Operations and will play a key role on the site leadership team, helping the site evolve its business model to expand its portfolio of products.

The Director, internally known as the Director of Information Systems, will provide leadership to the IS and Automation team (about 30 people in total), establishing a future vision and clear goals and expectations to achieve that vision. Further, the Director will identify, lead and support initiatives as required to deliver on site wide priorities as well as drive operational improvement strategies, share best practices / lessons learned and partner with key stakeholders. Also, the incumbent will drive the portfolio process and required reporting metrics including the creation of a portfolio management decentralized team while managing the creation and execution of IS vendor and alliance management strategies. Finally, the Director is a key role on the diverse site leadership team, driving the evolution and integration of our data strategy to ensure a world-class operation with a high degree of reliability and efficiency while using an agile mindset.

Amgen Rhode Island is one of the largest drug substance manufacturing sites in the world with a large complex portfolio of commercial biologics. The site is in its final stages of significantly expanding its capacity through an additional plant with next-generation manufacturing capabilities. The site has a high level of sensorics and automation providing a large daily data set to continuously generate predictive knowledge and insights.

Key Responsibilities of the Director of Information Systems and Automation - RI Site Lead include:

  • Ability to effectively lead teams and groups through decision-making processes to drive to timely decisions taking into account appropriate analysis, data and critical information
  • Seeks opportunities to streamline processes, minimize bureaucracy and improve organizational structures to help build long-term capability for the organization
  • Fosters an environment that drives creativity and innovation where individuals can think out of the box and take calculated risks
  • Provides coaching, performance management, career development and mentoring to staff across the organization


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of IS and/or automation experience

OR

Master's degree and 8 years of IS and/or automation experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of IS and/or automation experience

AND

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of supervisory experience with demonstrated skills in staff engagement, coaching/mentoring and professional development
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to set the context and present on complex subjects to senior management in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong leadership, influencing, project management, negotiation, planning, and organizational change management skills
  • Experience working cross-functionally and building collaborative working relationships; interfacing effectively with Operations and IS senior and executive management to resolve issues
  • Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, ability to see the big picture, ability to collect, digest and assemble information to enable relevant business analyses and facilitate decision-making
  • Results oriented, strong adherence to timelines
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing or Operational Excellence concepts
  • Possesses personal leadership qualities that inspire trust, respect, credibility and confidence of peers and colleagues and takes the organization to a higher level
