The mission of the Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) directorate is to develop an enterprise-level, consolidated information technology infrastructure that provides exceptional IT capabilities to the Frederick National Labs for Cancer Research (NCI-Frederick/FNLCR) in support of basic, translational, and clinical cancer and AIDS research. The IT Operations Group (ITOG) is a part of the EIT directorate within Leidos Biomedical. ITOG is responsible for computational servers, storage servers, virtual machine infrastructure, and the FNLCR network. ITOG focuses on implementing enterprise IT best practices in the areas of computational services, storage, backup, and archiving; batch and application support; server consolidation and virtualization; network infrastructure; unification of voice, teleconferencing, and video communication technologies; and improved infrastructure for collocation of dedicated servers.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The IT Operations Manager will:
  • Plan, direct, and supervise the daily operations for ITOG including the management of staff in, system administration, storage, and the data center
  • Create and guide opportunities for personal development
  • Interface with our government partners, leidos and contractor groups on IT operational matters
  • Manage incident and change management functions for ITOG
  • Manage and practice the IT disaster recovery plan
  • Respond to government data calls
  • Work with ITOG team leads to manage maintenance service contracts

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college/university in biomedical science/math/computer according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
  • In addition to the educational requirements, a minimum of four (4) years of job-related experience plus one (1) year of leadership is required
  • Strong project management experience specific to IT operational projects involving the lifecycle of networking, server and storage infrastructure
  • Ability to manage an infrastructure budget and hardware lifecycle refresh plan
  • Strong organizational skills and experience in formulating and implementing IT solutions to meet business requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of scientific personnel through written and oral presentations
  • Practical experience with Linux, AD, Windows 2008 / 2012 server OS, VMware
  • Practical experience managing resources in a hybrid loud infrastructure
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible job-related experience in running an IT Operations group including five (5) years of experience in a leadership capacity
  • Minimum of 5 years hands on experience installing, configuring and managing enterprise NAS storage platforms such as NetApp and EMC Isilon
