Summary:

An R&D Specialist executes experiments under the minimal supervision of a manager, performs technical tasks, troubleshoots problems, and interprets/presents experimental data results. Generates high quality data and documentation and demonstrates sound decision-making ability in his/her area of expertise. Possesses the analytical skills, along with the competencies of an R&D Associate.

Responsibilities:

• Trains on manual and automated bioanalytical methods and executes methods to perform bioanalysis for clinical studies under minimal supervision.

• Executes multiple plates/methods within the same day. Consistently generates high quality data and documentation. Adapts to changing priorities.

• May be responsible for coordinating bioanalysis activities for a clinical program under supervision.

• Exhibits independence when performing bioanalysis activities and demonstrates a sense of accountability related to his/her work performed and the associated results generated.

• Independently interprets data to assess plate acceptance criteria and determine appropriate sample dilutions. Reports to his/her manager any assay-related failures. Performs development experiments to troubleshoot assay-related issues under minimal supervision. Summarizes data under minimal supervision and presents data in a logical manner to his/her manager and Laboratory Manager

• Demonstrates scientific curiosity and pro-actively asks questions to aid in an understanding of the work. May begin to design development/investigation experiments or contribute to process improvement initiatives.

• May train R&D Associates and/or Laboratory Assistants and assist other R&D Associates or Specialists.

• Provides cross-functional support to other bioanalysis teams or groups within the department, as needed.

• Engages in strong two-way communication with his/her manager, Laboratory Manager and other team-members. Collaborates consistently and successfully with other team members and may begin to demonstrate leadership skills within these collaborations.

• Actively participates in and presents work at sub-team/group meetings. May present data at department meetings.

• May prepare study/program specific documentation for the Lab Manager and/or PI, as needed.

• Executes necessary operations in LIMS (requesting samples, building analysis plates, tracking sample movement, tracking pending analysis and performing data entry). Utilizes the ELN for data documentation purposes.

• Prepares and qualifies reagents, and re-orders laboratory supplies and reagents, as needed. May communicate with internal groups and outside vendors to obtain assay-related reagents.

• Ensures compliance, as appropriate, for all laboratory work and documentation in accordance with working practices, company SOPs, bioanalytical methods and regulations.

• Works closely with Quality Control (QC) to address documentation findings and ensure quality data is provided.

• Responsible for his/her own safety in the laboratory, as well as for the safety of co-workers and visitors.

• Conducts himself/herself with professionalism and integrity while maintaining a strong work ethic.

• Actively participates in his/her own professional and personal development. Communicates effectively with his/her manager with respect to performance management.

Educational Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree

• or a Master's degree

• Typically, 4 plus years of relevant post-degree laboratory experience for Bachelor's degree

• Typically, 2 plus years of relevant post-degree laboratory experience for Master's degree
