Job Summary

Amgen's tax planning group is part of a world class tax department that provides global tax planning, transfer pricing, tax reporting, and tax audit defense for the Company. The tax planning group works closely with Finance, Accounting, and Treasury employees in Amgen's Thousand Oaks headquarters, its regional headquarters in Europe and Asia, and in its capabilities center in Tampa, a state-of-the-art facility that serves as a base for Finance, Information Systems, and Human Resources.

Job Responsibilities

The Director will report to the Executive Director, Global Tax Planning, and will play a key role in identifying, evaluating, and implementing domestic and international tax planning opportunities as well as performing research and providing advice on a broad range of tax issues related to the Company's operations.

The Director will play an important role in Amgen's tax planning process and also will be involved in the preparation and review of portions of Amgen's tax provision and tax returns.

Amgen has a large international footprint and does business in over 75 countries. As a global biopharmaceutical company with over $20 billion in revenue, the Company's complex tax matters include high value intangibles, mergers and acquisitions, licensing transactions, complex manufacturing, financing transactions, and research and development activities.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years Finance and Tax experience

OR

Master's degree and 7 years Finance and Tax experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 9 years Finance and Tax experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in international and domestic tax planning with a Big Four Accounting firm, a major law firm, or a tax department of a multinational corporation
  • Strong legal research and technical skills with experience covering a broad range of tax matters
  • Familiarity with the U.S. taxation of international transactions, including transfer pricing rules and the international aspects of the recently enacted U.S. tax reform provisions
  • Experience with domestic and international licensing transactions and mergers and acquisitions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to work effectively with senior management and other functional areas
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills that are critical in a team-oriented organization
