We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished scientist to join Kite Pharma's Cell Therapy Research organization to lead the Allogeneic Cell Therapy Group. This challenging and important role will direct the team and drive the development of strategies to optimize the next generation of allogeneic cell therapy products.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

This role will manage the development and execution of design experiments, work with the sub-teams and their direct reports to execute program workflows, organize and analyze results, determine appropriate follow-up experiments and communicate program progress to the general research group and management. The role will manage program progress according to established timelines and adjust research focus as necessary to ensure progress is on-track.

The Sr Director will lead a team of scientists and associates focused on the development of normal donor and stem cell-based allogeneic product for engineered cellular immunotherapies. Responsibilities will include identifying and evaluating new approaches to allogeneic CAR-T engineering and assessing and their impact on T-cell development, phenotype, and potency of modified cell product, allogeneic responses, graft rejection and product persistence. This includes interfacing with the Product Sciences department to develop various T-cell methodologies towards initial clinical testing and into a commercial processes.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD degree in cellular biology, immunology, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • Direct experience/expertise in cellular immunology with focus on either transplantation or NK cell biology.
  • Experience in cell engineering using viral or non-viral methods and nuclease engineering with the goal of gene-therapy
  • Experience managing, mentoring and engaging direct reports
  • Expertise in multicolor flow cytometry, preferably in T-cell development and mature T-cell phenotyping
  • Expertise in automation systems, such as automated liquid handling robotics and bioreactors
  • A deep understanding of the mechanisms of immunological rejection of allogeneic cell therapies or transplant tolerance.
  • A demonstrated track record in drug discovery and development
  • A demonstrated ability to lead cross functional discovery programs.
  • Experience running programs and projects in an organized fashion and able to communicate status broadly, accurately and efficiently
  • Experience with T-cell product generation, preferably CAR-based or TCR-engineered T-cells
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential in this collaborative work environment
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced research environment with minimal direction, and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
