AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Associate Director will be a key member of the U.S. Trade & Distribution team as well as the Market Access and U.S. Commercial teams. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing and executing upon our trade and distribution model and strategy. The Associate Director will work closely with key personnel within AveXis, including Market Access, Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs), Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and Warehouse. Additionally, they will partner with other key departments within the AveXis organization including Legal, Compliance, Quality, Pharmacovigilance, Procurement and Finance.

This position will identify salient business issues, innovative opportunities and recommend solutions that support key critical success factors. This individual will implement and execute appropriate trade strategy, tactics and monitor critical success factors to ensure progress and successful outcomes against goals. The role will be responsible for identifying gaps in progress and finding solutions to address any such gaps to ensure speed and access to therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Execute upon Trade and Distribution activities and services for AveXis.
  • Support the design of the distribution model for current and future products.
  • Assist in managing contract agreements, addendums and renewals with Specialty Pharmacy(s) Specialty Distributor, and Courier Service.
  • Trade and Distribution account management.
  • Manage trade and distribution partners in a compliant manner and ensure adhere to contractual requirements.
  • Conduct onsite training and continuous review of the AveXis service model with Specialty Pharmacy(s), Specialty Distributor, and Courier service.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key strategic partners.
  • Implement and execute the automated ordering program with Courier Service.
  • Manage all state license renewals.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Warehouse teams to support US product supply and manage orders and any customer components that flow through Specialty Distributors.
  • Manage day to day operations and activities with Courier Service, Specialty Pharmacy(s), Specialty Distributor.
  • Monitor all shipments and provide site of care with temperature monitoring detail and Certificate of Conformance (CoC).
  • Collaborate with the HUB and Field Reimbursement Team to ensure product availability at the site of care when requested.
  • Leverage and optimize partnerships with internal functions, including all departments within the commercial group, manufacturing, supply chain, finance, pharmacovigilance and legal.
  • Participate and execute new product or product expansion launches distribution planning, strategy and tactics.
  • Effectively communicate within the organization and outside the organization with empathy, sincerity, and active listening.
  • Lead EDI updates within the commercial setting.
  • Support and execute DQSA within the channel.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in science or business.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, experience in the rare disease space preferred.
  • 5+years of specific experience in working with specialty distribution models, specialty pharmacy(s) and trade and distribution management preferred.
  • Account Management experience with trade and distribution partners preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US trade and distribution with the ability to problem solve quickly and efficiently.
  • Experience with buy & bill and specialty pharmacy medical claims.
  • Understanding and functional knowledge of QAD or SAP is a plus.
  • Proven ability to partner with and coordinate interdisciplinary teams (internal and external) to drive issues resolutions and projects to conclusion.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to customer service and a solution-oriented approach.
  • Excellent project management and written and verbal skills.
  • Possess unquestioned integrity and strong business ethics and ensure rigorous corporate compliance in all activities and communications.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to customer service.
  • Excellent Power Point, Excel, Visio skills - ability to develop a strong graphical message to report on the group's performance.
  • Up to 35% travel required.
  • Weekends and after hours may be required.
