The Financials Shared Services organization was established as one of the key new operating models for AbbVie to provide accurate financial accounting and reporting for all international affiliates. This position plays a meaningful role in the oversight of the preparation of the financial documents for various countries within Americas for US GAAP and Local GAAP as well as Balance Sheet Planning and implementation of compliance and SOX controls. In this role you will work closely with cross functional partners across the organization such as Accounting COE, Tax COE, BPO, etc to support financial decision-making process by collecting, analyzing and reporting financial data.

The Regional Accounting Manager will work together with Commercial Finance, the Accounting COE, the BPO, and others to ensure compliance with company accounting and operational guidelines, as well as US and local statutory GAAP. You will lead a direct/ indirect staff of 12 (US GAAP & Statutory Accountants).
Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Research and resolve technical accounting issues, and review financial and accounting analysis involving complex transactions in a variety of areas
  • Interpret and roll out accounting policy/standards, including application of US GAAP (e.g., revenue recognition, pension accounting, etc.)
  • Support development and standardization of AbbVie Accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with AbbVie Accounting policy and procedures
  • Monitor internal control compliance in the region
  • Play a meaningful role in the preparation of US GAAP financial documents. Activities include, but are not limited to, compiling information for disclosures in accordance with U.S. SEC reporting requirements
  • Lead, coordinate and review the Balance Sheet planning process (Updates & Plan) as well as the financial close process
  • Oversee the monthly DSO and Balance Sheet Commentary
  • Review key account reconciliations
  • Perform reserve and impairment analyses (e.g. receivables, inventory, intangible assets, etc.) in accordance with corporate policy
  • Review changes to chart of accounts
  • Perform periodic balance sheet account reviews at a country level
  • Initiate operational improvements and quality reviews to simplify and increase productivity
  • Assist as needed in the statutory reporting process
  • Liaison with external auditors and actuaries
  • Lead ad hoc projects as needed and help drive the AbbVie agenda
  • Liaison with senior partners and management teams in the area
  • Exposure to top management and liaison with virtual partners


Basic:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting; CPA or MBA a plus
  • 7+ years of forward-thinking accounting and/or finance experience
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in managerial positions
  • Audit background a plus
  • Experience with US GAAP Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Financial Statement Analysis, Cost/Inventory Accounting and Project Accounting is helpful
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Intermediate to Advanced Excel
  • Experience with SAP & Accounting Systems and Reconciliation Tools (e.g., Blackline) preferred
  • Experience with Business Process, Corporate Policy & Financial Data Flows, Chart of Accounts and SOX controls preferred
  • Proficient in reading / interpreting financial documents and analyzing performance
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and social skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills enabling effective communication with all levels of management
  • You will need to be self-motivated with phenomenal follow-up skills and be able to work independently
  • Strong organizational skills required to coordinate and lead across multiple organizations, processes and initiatives
  • Ability to succeed in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Good communications skills are required. English is mandatory (written and speaking). Spanish is a plus as the part of the team and the region's location is in Latin America
