We are seeking a highly motivated individual who shares enthusiasm for immunology, cell signaling, and synthetic biology to join our growing team in Emeryville. In this role, you will contribute to the company's efforts to develop next-generation cell therapies in oncology. Specifically, you will be part of a cell biology research team focused on novel engineering approaches to enhance CAR T anti-tumor activity. You will be responsible for the production, expansion and characterization of engineered human T cells for preclinical evaluation. The team member will be expected to work in a collaborative cross-functional team environment, perform experiments, organize and analyze results, communicate effectively and present findings in team meetings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design and execute experiments that investigate cutting-edge technologies to enhance CAR T cell function
  • Hands-on engineer, culture, and characterize CAR T cell function using in vitro assays including, but not limited to cytotoxicity, cytokine/chemokine measurements, proliferation
  • Study signaling pathways using biochemistry techniques including western blotting, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, and multiplex assays to uncover novel T cell biology
  • Build and utilize library-based tools for high throughput screening
  • Stay current on the latest scientific literature relevant to cellular therapies, cell engineering, and T cell biology
  • Collect, organize, interpret, and present data in small and large group meetings
  • Contribute to a dynamic, exciting culture that embraces teamwork and innovation
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced company, willing to learn and take on new responsibilities, ability to adjust workload based on changing priorities
  • Proven ability to work and think independently and creatively; be an affable and energetic colleague and team player
  • Self-motivated and willing to accept temporary responsibilities outside of initial job description


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • BS degree in immunology/cell biology/molecular biology with 2+ years of industry experience or
  • MS degree in immunology/cell biology/molecular biology with no industry experience.
  • Experience required in:
    • Multicolor flow cytometry (thorough knowledge of T cell subsets)
    • Molecular biology techniques (PCR, ELISA, and westerns)
    • Mammalian cell culture
    • Primary T cell assays (expansion, proliferation and cytotoxicity)
    • Gene editing (CRISPR, miRNAs etc.)
  • Current on the latest scientific literature relevant to cellular therapies, cell engineering, and T cell biology
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are essential in this collaborative work environment
  • Strong organizational skills and record keeping


PREFERRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Prior experience with:
    • Gene editing (CRISPR, miRNA, etc.) in primary T cells
    • Cell sorting
    • Library-based screening
    • NGS and ddPCR
    • MSD or Luminex
  • Generation of retroviral/lentiviral vectors and transduction of target cells
  • Proficiency in the use of software to support data analysis such as FlowJo, FACSDiva, GraphPad Prism, as well as Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
