Main Job Purpose:

Amgen is seeking a Director of Medical Information Systems (IS) to join the Research and Medical Informatics (R&MI) organization at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. You will act as the Research & Development (R&D) IS leader supporting Global Medical organization and will be a member of the R&D IS Leadership team and Medical Leadership teams contributing to the Strategic IS activities. As an IS leader for Medical, you will be accountable for all strategic technology planning/road-mapping, operational run and building of new capabilities supporting the function globally, including Thousand Oaks, and all of Amgen's global medical regions and countries.

The Medical organization is charged to be a catalyst to shape the healthcare ecosystem to enable access to medicines by clear communication of value. Medical organization works closely with Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Global Commercial organizations to facilitate scientific exchange across broad range of healthcare stakeholders. The Medical group gathers insights from healthcare ecosystem and translates them into actionable strategies. It also generates data to help inform clinical practice and healthcare delivery

Medical IS team is responsible for the development and execution of the IT strategy, architecture and operations by delivering business information systems, IT services, and digital technology solutions in partnership with the Medical organization globally. As an IS leader, you support the vision and mission of Medical organization with industry leading technical and data analytics solutions.

You will report to the Executive Director of Research and Medical IS organization and will partner with other IS organizations and Medical Leadership teams.

Key Activities for the Director of Medical IS:
  • Be responsible for delivery of Innovative technology solutions to support medical organization
  • Advance IS strategy by working on industry standard platforms and incorporating agile delivery approaches
  • Establish Strategic technology direction for the Medical IS organization
  • Develop technical and data capabilities to drive actionable insights for Medical leadership team
  • Actively define and run the annual IS project portfolio for Medical and oversight of long term run support of solutions implemented
  • Provide direct management to a team of Senior Managers and Architects coordinating their activities, progress towards goals, and career development.
  • Provide technical & program/project leadership to the project teams in all project phases (design, delivery, startup, commissioning, validation and operational support) as well as IS leadership oversight to ensure the program/project budget, schedule and staffing is commensurate to enabling the business objectives.
  • Influence the development of business area strategy where appropriate
  • Direct efforts of Information Systems integrators, vendors, contractors, and Amgen teams in the successful execution of efforts by using appropriate development methodologies to meet Medical business requirements
  • Travel: Domestic and International travel up to 10% may be required.


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Master's degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience

AND

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, or programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in biopharma industry supporting Medical, Commercial, or Clinical Development groups
  • Experience working with validated systems
  • Experience working with senior IS and C-level Business executives
  • Proven ability to work in a highly matrixed environment and cultivate strong business partnerships


Experience with the following:
  • SalesForce and AWS platforms
  • Data mining and analytics
  • Management of globally dispersed teams
  • Information Systems supporting medical business unit
  • Strong program leadership skills, including but not limited to the following: client interfacing and resolution of business partner concerns, developing and reporting results, technical mentorship, detailed planning, vendor/contract management, validation, technical solution evaluation.
