Job Summary

Amgen's Worldwide Compliance and Business Ethics department (WC&BE) consists of a highly qualified and motivated team of professionals who identify, review, evaluate, manage and advise on compliance considerations within the organization, including those relating to Amgen's business development opportunities. As a member of WC&BE, the Compliance Senior Manager, Business Development will be responsible for WC&BE's support of business development initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic equity investments, licensing opportunities, research and clinical development collaborations, and other partnerships that advance the execution of Amgen's growth strategy.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Reviewing, and providing input into, the compliance-related provisions in partnership and collaboration agreements
  • Assisting, in partnership with the Law Department and other stakeholders, in developing strategies for negotiating the compliance-related provisions in such agreements
  • Conducting and evaluating the results of compliance-related due diligence
  • Assessing and proposing mitigation strategies for risks associated with business development opportunities
  • Leading post-deal integration and implementation of business development initiatives on behalf of WC&BE
  • Preparing written communications intended for multiple internal stakeholder audiences
  • Evaluating and communicating the impacts of business development initiatives on internal stakeholder groups
  • Developing and managing project schedules and processes to ensure project timelines/deadlines are met
  • Coordinating project team meetings and working in cross-functional teams to ensure execution of initiatives
  • Maintaining knowledge of the healthcare industry, recent federal and state enforcement activities, and the laws and regulations (including the federal and local anti-bribery and anti-corruption, and anti-kickback laws) relating to the development, approval, and commercialization of biopharmaceutical products, particularly as they relate to business development initiatives
  • Managing relationships with consultants
  • Representing WC&BE on corporate cross-functional committees and meetings


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree & 2 years of Compliance or Law experience

OR

Master's degree & 4 years of Compliance or Law experience

OR

Bachelor's degree & 6 years of Compliance or Law experience

OR

Associate degree & 10 years of Compliance or Law experience

OR

High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Compliance or Law experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Legal experience (particularly in complex business transactions) strongly preferred
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, writing, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organization skills, and the ability to work independently, efficiently, and effectively
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry, recent federal and state enforcement activities, the laws and regulations relating to the development, approval, and commercialization of biotechnology/pharmaceutical products (such as the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act) and other laws and regulations governing third-party relationships in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry (including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the U.S. Anti-Kickback Statute, the Physician Payment Sunshine Act, and foreign equivalents)
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and complex situations
  • Ability to think strategically and to translate strategy into action plans
  • Ability to prioritize, be proactive, resolve conflicts, meet deadlines, and be a team player
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff and management, and build relationships across disciplines
  • Strong ability to synthesize complex information, and clearly and concisely articulate the relevant points at the right altitude
  • Experience in building healthy working relationships across departments, making difficult decisions, solving problems, working under time constraints, presenting to internal peers and external clients, managing numerous projects simultaneously
  • Project management skills
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and document management systems
