AveXis, a Novartis company, is dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product is a proprietary gene therapy approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric patients with SMA. In addition to developing a treatment for SMA, AveXis also plans to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

AveXis is seeking a Manager, Global Security and Corporate Services (GSCS) Programs responsible for security and facility planning and organizing across various AveXis locations including Illinois sites with the corporate headquarters, San Diego, CA and Longmont, CO. to ensure an effective, efficient and safe environment. The role will be coordinating with site staff on effective operations of each location. The role will assist the Vice President, Global Security and Corporate Services (GSCS) and others with the design and construction of new space and locations, oversee space planning needs to include MACs (Moves/adds/changes) and lead the development of core programs including travel risk management, emergency communication, site security and facility standards. The Manager will be the primary contact with Global Engineering and Facilities for capital projects.


  • Leads the development and implementation of core GSCS programs including but not limited to:
    • Threat assessment team
    • Investigations
    • Active assailant
    • Mass communication
    • Security communication
    • Emergency response plans
    • Travel risk management
    • Manages locations of assigned workspaces
    • Business risk intelligence platform and processes
    • Security awareness training and communications
    • GSCS department documentation/policies/procedures
  • Conducts internal AveXis investigations and supports parent company's compliance office investigations as directed.
  • Oversees interdisciplinary threat assessment team.
  • Develops personal safety plans for various employee groups based on risk.
  • Selects, tests, pilots, develops and implements cutting edge security communications tools for the dissemination/collection of information to/from employees including electronic, social media, and internet-based tools.
  • Utilizes CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) standards and concepts when evaluating new space requests and/or changes.
  • Manages outsourcing provider(s) to ensure negotiation and project execution is in line with expectations. Identify additional excess capacity opportunities. This will vary from site to site based on need.
  • Work closely with each department to ensure that GSCS concerns are considered and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the development and management of assigned budget(s) for a given area to ensure responsible control over and efficient use of resources.
  • Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding the staff and organization.
  • Works collaboratively with other GSCS personnel.


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field or relevant experience and 7 years of experience in corporate security, facilities, engineering, real estate or related field.
  • Awareness and passion for workplace strategies and execution discipline required to deliver.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey project status and program needs across different levels of the organization and different operating environments.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and operate independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ownership of solutions, and a constant drive to improve results.
  • Professional associations and/or certifications in security/facilities functions.

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
