Kite Pharma is seeking an experienced Research Associate level to join our growing team in Emeryville. In this role, you will play an important function in bridging early in vitro research to preclinical in vivo work through the production and characterization of CAR-T cells.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Be part of a growing, cross-functional team which is critical to the successful advancement of multiple internal research programs.
  • Process human leukopaks and apply multiple in vitro characterization assays in order to establish, maintain and supply human T cells for preclinical studies.
  • Work closely with research groups to develop protocols, playing a key role in the production and characterization CAR-T cells for preclinical in vivo studies.
  • Optimize existing or explore alternative conditions for T cell enrichment, activation, transduction and expansion.
  • Generate and present in vitro characterization data internally and to research teams.


Preferred qualifications:
  • BS or MS in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with cell therapy or viral gene delivery is highly desired.
  • Strong cell culture and aseptic technique, as well as experience with the cultivation of primary cells.
  • Immunology background, with experience in multi-color flow cytometry and phenotypic analysis utilizling appropriate technology (FlowJo, Prism, Excel etc.) to create and distribute analysis of data is preferred.
  • Experience in the characterization of T cell function in vitro through cytotoxicity, proliferation and cytokine production assays utilizing ELISA, or Luminex-based assays is highly valuable.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain detailed documentation of research activities.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able embrace change, while working to produce key deliverables in accordance with project timelines.
