NGM Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical stage biotech company dedicated to discovering and developing the next generation of medicines for the treatment of serious diseases.  Our experienced scientific team has joined forces with an impressive group of industry professionals, Nobel Laureates and other distinguished researchers to form a company where innovation and cutting-edge science has provided the foundation for a robust drug discovery engine.  To date, NGM Bio has generated a pipeline of seven drug candidates in various stages of development targeting liver, metabolic and ophthalmic diseases and cancer. The most advanced drug candidate, NGM282, is entering Phase 2b clinical studies in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).  NGM’s strategic collaboration with Merck, which was extended to March 2022, will continue to provide us with the resources and flexibility to pursue our ambitious R&D goals and further extend our pipeline of novel drug candidates. 

We are currently looking for an outstanding technician to become a member of NGM’s team. The successful candidate will provide a variety of general laboratory services in support of NGM’s research groups.  Essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Glassware maintenance, including collecting, cleaning, sterilizing, and distributing laboratory glassware.
  • Supplies management, including maintaining and recording supplies inventories in NGM stockrooms, Supply Centers, and tissue culture suites.
  • Media preparation, including bacterial agar plates and commonly used buffers upon request; the ability to use basic laboratory instruments, such as analytical balances, pH meters, magnetic stir plates, etc .is highly desirable.
  • Proper maintenance and operation of laboratory glasswasher and autoclaves, including troubleshooting breakdowns and managing supplies.
  • Waste disposal, including collecting, autoclaving and properly disposing of waste that requires sterilization before disposal, disposal of recyclable materials.
  • General routine safety duties, such as monthly eyewash and shower tests, monthly sterilizer test, and associated record keeping.
  • Scheduled freezer defrosts and incubator decontaminations
  • Working as a member of the Facilities support team, perform routine duties upon request, such as carrying filters and other supplies to the roof.
  • Perform auxiliary services as requested.

During the course of these duties, regular physical exertion, such as climbing, crouching, crawling and/or lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required.  The job function will involve the regular use of chemicals, heavy machinery or other equipment/materials that require use of personnel protective equipment and routine safety precautions.  The applicant must be able to perform work independently to ensure all responsibilities are completed in a timely manner and be diligent in maintaining a clean and orderly work area.  

Qualifications

The candidate must possess a High School Diploma (AA or BS in Biological Sciences is highly preferred but not required). Previous experience in a laboratory environment is required; a work background in biotechnology is desirable. Effective communications skills are essential: the candidate must be able to communicate effectively through email and productively interact with co-workers both in one-on-one and small group settings.  Some basic computer skills, including use of Windows, Excel, Microsoft Office, email and the internet, are also required.
