Amgen is seeking a Senior IS Engineer - Reporting & Visualizations to join our Research & Medical Informatics (R&MI) organization. The Senior IS Engineer will report to the Senior Manager, Global Medical based out of Amgen's Capability Center in Tampa, FL and will focus on building leading edge visualization, reporting and dashboard solutions enabling generation of cross-capability business insights using modern technology stacks. The Global Medical IS team within R&MI supports platforms, technologies and applications for opinion leader relationship management and scientific exchange and evidence generation globally.   • Lead the technical design, development, testing, implementation, and support of data and analytics product backlog with user stories related to data visualization, dashboards, and reporting
  • Collaborate with business partners and business analysts to translate business requirements into technical requirements
  • Work closely with the enterprise architects and platform teams to ensure that the applications are aligned with the overall architectural and development guidelines
  • Maintain knowledge of market trends and developments in AI, Data Science and related emerging technologies to provide recommendations and deliver standard methodology solutions.
  • Estimate level of effort and hours required as part of Sprint planning.
  • Implement standardized, automated operational and quality control processes to deliver accurate and timely data analytics and reporting needs.
  • Contribute to the exploration and understanding of new tools, and techniques and undertake proof of concepts.
  • Integrate the enterprise data lake with analytical tools such as Spotfire, the Data Scientist workbench, the Data Marketplace, etc.
  • Collaborate with Data Architects, Business SMEs, and Data Scientists to architect data visualization products and services.
  • Act as a run manager, provide Run/DevOps support, assess risks and options to maintain and fix production issues.
  • Own and manage product backlog delivery.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Master's degree and 3 years of Information Systems experience


Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Information Systems experience


Associate degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience


High School degree and 12 years of Information System experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and technical expertise to be able to communicate effectively with business and technology partners
  • Biotech / Pharma exposure
  • Experience in:
    • Semantic technologies and approaches focused on analytics, business intelligence, reporting or data management
    • Architecting analytics and BI solutions using at-least one of the two of the following technologies - Tableau, Spotfire
    • Leading an end-to-end delivery of large-scale/complex BI projects in Cloud/AWS environment
  • Working knowledge of AWS technologies such as S3, Redshift, Spectrum, EMR, Spark, Athena
  • Strong SQL skills with an understanding of RDBMS, MPP, and HDFS databases and performance tuning experience related to reporting queries
  • Previous experience with data analysis, extraction, and visualization using statistical software (R, S-Plus, SAS, or similar), databases and scripting languages (such as Python) preferred
  • Working knowledge of data modeling principles and tuning of relational as well as NoSQL datastores (Oracle, Red-shift, Impala, HDFS/Hive, Athena, etc.)
  • Experience working with Agile development methodologies (such as Sprint and Scrum) and DevOps
  • Experience with software engineering best-practices, including but not limited to version control (Git, TFS, Subversion, etc.), CI/CD (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, etc.), automated unit testing, DevOps.
