Job Details
The Neuroscience department at our Cambridge, Massachusetts location is looking for an undergraduate interested in a 6-month Co-op assignment. The Co-op internship position is focused on molecular and cell biology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in the field of neurodegenerative disease research. The successful co-op will contribute directly to projects in the lab that seek to discover new avenues for therapeutic development. The Co-op will be challenged to learn and integrate elements of laboratory automation (robotics), microscopy, and mammalian cell culture to complete project goals. Highly motivated students interested in developing the fundamental skills needed for a career in bioscience research are encouraged to apply.
Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.
Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications
Degree Concentration(s) in Biological, physical/material, and health science majors or related field with an interest in bioscience research
Basic bioscience laboratory experience including familiarity with routine molecular biology procedures (e.g. DNA purification, PCR)
Familiarity with mammalian cell culture is preferred but not required
Understanding of biochemical techniques such as western blotting and SDS-PAGE
Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and scientific graphic software
Strong desire to learn a variety of techniques and explore independent ideas
Attention to detail and focused persistence in working through problems that may not have clear solutions
