Amgen is seeking a Corporate Affairs Program Manager - Science Education to be based at our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Program Manager, internally known as the Corporate Affairs Manager, will report directly to the Philanthropy Director of Corporate Affairs (who also serves as the Vice President of the Amgen Foundation).

Consistent with the vision of Amgen Corporate Affairs to "proactively shape, drive and enhance the Amgen brand and reputation globally" - as well as the mission of the Amgen Foundation to meaningfully inspire tomorrow's scientists and strengthen our communities locally and globally - the Program Manager is responsible for the management, support and enhancement of key programs and projects across the Amgen Foundation's portfolio, with a particular focus on science education at the secondary and undergraduate levels.

Key Responsibilities of the Corporate Affairs Program Manager - Science Education will include:
  • Manages ongoing key science education programs and projects, delivering results and improvement across the portfolio in alignment with overall goals
  • Develops and executes a strong project management plan to strengthen overall program operations, relationships, and synergies utilizing evidence-based research, knowledge of the field and best practices in science education
  • Works within and beyond Amgen's matrixed organization of executives and staff of all levels to differentiate and amplify Amgen's philanthropic impact and profile, particularly as it relates to underserved communities and populations
  • Liaises with key internal and external stakeholders through the initiative lifecycle, including management and support of Request for Proposals, leadership forums, events or other convenings including program symposia
  • Assesses and analyzes data and feedback to make evidence-based recommendations as it relates to proposals and programs in alignment with Foundation goals, strategies, and desired outcomes
  • Develops and facilitates strong assessment mechanisms with partners to track program success and embed a data-driven culture across regional program sites and the overall portfolio
  • Anticipates and manages issues that arise that may impact the success of Amgen or Amgen Foundation initiatives through cross-functional coordination across the company, and in collaboration with external stakeholders
  • Provides communications support and leadership for current and future corporate social responsibility initiatives, including program-related launches, events, and other activities in key regions and countries around the world


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 2 years of science education and/or corporate social responsibility and/or corporate affairs and/or philanthropic experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of science education and/or corporate social responsibility and/or corporate affairs and/or philanthropic experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of science education and/or corporate social responsibility and/or corporate affairs and/or philanthropic experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of science education and/or corporate social responsibility and/or corporate affairs and/or philanthropic experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of related experience in Science Education and/or Corporate Social Responsibility and/or Philanthropy
  • Scientific research and/or experience engaging secondary students in life science labs preferred
  • 3+ years' experience working in project management in education, philanthropy or related field
  • Experience with all aspects of event management and planning, educational evaluation and assessment, as well as Requests for Proposals processes, is highly desirable
  • Experience coordinating and working across international regions
  • Knowledge and understanding of the science education, lab-based instruction, education technology and Corporate Social Responsibility landscapes
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of the regulations governing charitable foundations
  • Possess a natural curiosity for and proven track record in supporting and managing science education initiatives to drive greater impact on organizations and beneficiaries as well as elevate an organization's citizenship profile
  • Excellent oral and presentation skills; ability to analyze, negotiate and persuade
  • Strong writing skills and proven grantee relations skills that are results-oriented
  • Strategic, creative and strong project manager with ability to coordinate and manage programs aligned with overall priorities and objectives
  • Strong collaborator; ability to coordinate with different functions, staff and organizations focused on impact in science education and beyond to achieve social impact and communications objectives
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous learning and applying latest research as it relates to science education, staff engagement and philanthropy
  • Strong facilitation and group process experience
  • Ability to navigate a challenging and dynamic environment productively
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and deal with rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management, staff, grantees, and vendors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter
