Principal Scientist - Oncology and Inflammation Research

The Department of Oncology and Inflammation Research is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist to investigate mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases with the goal to develop novel immune-modulatory therapies to treat chronic inflammatory diseases and cancer.

The candidate will independently lead a group as well as project teams to discover and validate new therapeutic targets. The candidate will also collaborate with other research scientists at multiple Amgen sites, including teams in other functional areas such as Oncology, Therapeutic Discovery, Medical Sciences and Computational Biology. In this position, the individual is expected to make major scientific laboratory-based contributions to the research goals and milestones of the Oncology and Inflammation therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities

• Perform cutting-edge research that integrates human genetics and inflammatory/autoimmune disorders.
• Develop novel immune-modulating therapies using various innovative technologies and approaches.
• Publish experimental findings in top-tier Journals and present novel findings at national and international conferences.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 3 years of Scientific experience

OR

Master's degree and 6 years of Scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD or MD, with postdoctoral training and research experience in the fields of immunology, oncology, cancer immunotherapy, molecular biology, stem cell biology or human genetics

Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in the areas of immunology or oncology as demonstrated by multiple high impact publications

Demonstrated experience in leading independent research and drug development

Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: Analysis of gene regulation at the single cell level, complex in vitro models (e.g. organotypic cultures), cell signaling/biochemistry, in vivo mouse models of disease

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate and troubleshoot to solve problems.
