The Senior Director, International Tax is responsible for global tax compliance, planning, and tax accounting responsibilities for various projects impacting AbbVie's business and operations.

You will monitor and analyze proposed and newly enacted tax legislation and developments to ensure adequate procedures are in place to accurately report corporate taxes. The Senior Director will lead and review the tax accounting implications of cross-border transactions, international mergers and foreign business expansions.
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Provide strategy to senior management on Tax Planning, M&A Projects, Licensing Transactions, Co-promotion and Financing Structures with Financial Implication over $100MM. Coordinate meetings with senior government officials including: IRS, Federal Appeals Officers, United States Congress and Staff.
  • Prioritize tax-planning strategies to assist in achieving optimal tax deferral on AbbVie's portfolio of low-tax affiliates. Provide counsel on the structuring of international business transactions both with affiliates and third parties to ensure global tax optimization.
  • Counsel our global manufacturing organizations on issues related to tax strategy and planning.
  • Manage and review third-party agreements, including license & co-promotion agreements. Own the development and implementation of worldwide tax planning strategies that positively impact AbbVie's effective tax rate for financial reporting purposes. P&L impact over $25MM current and subsequent years.
  • Direct the negotiation of US foreign tax rulings and settlements, and international tax holidays.
  • Lead the US and foreign tax audits so that tax liabilities are minimized as a result of the audits. Develop and mentor my staff so that the Tax Division is not only stronger technically but also, to develop future leaders.
  • Provide technical support to our Tax Compliance Team. Develop sophisticated tax planning impacting annual P&L in excess of $25MM.
  • Lead and consult with external advisors for Europe, South America, Asia including local tax attorneys, public accounting firms and economist.
  • Mentor and develop other members of the tax group on U.S. /International implications with emphasis on sub-chapter C and sub-chapter N of the Internal Revenue Code along with applicable regulations and case law.

  • Master of Science in Accounting/Tax CPA Certification required, Legal Degree a plus.
  • Ability to perform complex and sophisticated tax analyses, and recommends proposed courses of action with minimal input from supervisors.
  • 15+ years of Tax experience in a Corporate 100 and or National Big Four Accounting Firm with strong technical skills in US - International Tax Planning.
  • Ability to collaborate with Top Management and work well with Business Units.
