We are seeking an Undergrad Co-op intern to join our research team and contribute to the expansion of Amgen's Neuroscience group at the Cambridge Research Center in Cambridge, MA and support our efforts focused on the discovery and advancement of drugs for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders with a focus on Parkinson's Disease.

Primary responsibilities for this co-op assignment will be to perform in vitro experiments to characterize and evaluate novel drug targets and candidates and include, but are not limited to, biochemical and cell-based assays, high-content imaging, metabolic analysis and electrophysiological techniques.

Additional responsibilities include design of experimental protocols and procedures, coordination of studies across different functional groups, data analysis, and the reporting of results to multidisciplinary teams. Candidates may also be required to participate in group and project meetings, as well as attend seminars.

Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in neuroscience, pharmacology, biology, biochemistry or a related discipline

Working knowledge of all aspects of sterile cell culture, previous experience with the culture of primary or pluripotent stem cell-derived neural cells is a plus

Experience with running high-content imaging assay, ELISA, immunocytochemistry, gene and protein expression profiling assays

Ability to aid in the design of scientific experiments and effectively document scientific results

High degree of motivation, independence, creativity, and problem-solving ability

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

Demonstrated ability to work and learn in a team/matrix environment
