Job Details

Bristol-Myers Squibb is a global Biopharma company committed to a single mission: to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines focused on helping millions of patients around the world in disease areas such as oncology, cardiovascular, immunoscience and fibrosis.

Join us and make a difference. We hire the best people and provide them with a work environment that places a premium on diversity, integrity, collaboration and personal development. Through a culture of inclusion, we create a better, more productive work environment. We believe that the diverse experiences and perspectives of all our employees help to drive innovation and transformative business results.

The Leads Discovery & Optimization (LDO) Group leverages technology, innovation, and broad scientific knowledge to deliver comprehensive in vitro data packages to support all phases of drug discovery at BMS. We are seeking a Senior Research Investigator with hands-on experience in label-free, mass spectrometry-based high-throughput screening to support small molecule lead identification and optimization.

As a Senior Research Investigator, this individual will be responsible for leading a mass spectrometry-based team within the Lead Discovery function. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in utilizing diverse analytical chemistry methods including MALDI to enable high throughput affinity selection as well as enzymatic approaches for lead identification. This individual will have the opportunity to work closely with therapeutic area project teams to identify the appropriate assays, and in addition will interface with high throughput instrumentation scientists to adapt assays to cutting-edge automation platforms. The individual is expected to have strong working knowledge of fundamental principles of in vitro pharmacology, including receptor-ligand interaction, and basic understanding of biochemical assay design. This is primarily a laboratory-based position with some management responsibilities.

As a member of the group, this individual will be expected to actively collaborate with multiple teams within LDO group such as the Biophysics Screening Group, Cellular Technologies Group, Mechanistic Biochemistry, and Lead Evaluation. The Senior Research Investigator will be expected to prepare and deliver effective presentations to project stakeholders. The ideal candidate will balance technical skills with critical-thinking and have demonstrated a track-record of rapidly driving high-quality, high-impact projects to completion. The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude and a drive to proactively facilitate the continuous improvement of processes and culture.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop and drive the execution of mass spectrometry-based high-throughput screening assays
  • Develop and drive the execution of affinity based screening methodology across broad target classes and functional modalities including protein homeostasis
  • Acquire, analyze, and interpret data as well as provide project updates in working groups
  • Demonstrate knowledge in data capture and analysis, applied statistical analysis, quality control, and quality assurance measures
  • Perform LC-MS systems routine maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Provide scientific and technical leadership within both the Lead Discovery and project teams
  • Effectively compile and present data to project teams in both written and oral formats
  • Work with Lead Discovery leadership to identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies to expand LDO mass spectrometry based capabilities in support of hits to leads function

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in mass spectrometry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, or related discipline with 5+ years' experience. Industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in developing and implementing mass spectrometry-based high-throughput screening assays, including maintenance and troubleshooting of hardware, software and biology
  • Experience in affinity selection mass spectrometry, MALDI, RapidFire MS, and "Open Port" MS
  • Hands-on experience with AB Sciex Triple quadrupole, Q-TOF MS and Bruker MALDI-TOF MS systems
  • Expertise using common data analysis software packages (PRISM, Spotfire, etc.) for analysis, presentation, and curation of data
  • Knowledge of general bioassay optical detection methods as well as biophysical technologies (including fluorescence, HTRF, ELISA, absorbance, luminescence, SPR, TSA, MST, ITC, etc.)
  • A strong background in de novo assay design, quality control, and high-throughput processes is a significant plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated strength in a matrix organization
  • Track record of successful multitasking and rapid execution
