Associate Director, R&D Project Management Oncology Cellular Therapies

Specific Responsibilities and skills for Position:

The Associate Director, Project Management is responsible for managing one or more complex projects.
  • Works in partnership with project leaders to develop, gain approval, and execute on the project strategy.
  • Co-chairs timely, efficient, and action-oriented Project Team meetings and is responsible for coordinating highly complex team operations and communications.
  • Participates in working groups within the Project Management department to resolve operational issues or improve department processes.


Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  • Organizes the formation of Project Teams in conjunction with functional leadership and guides transition of projects from research through commercialization
  • Works with project lead, functional reps and cell therapy research leadership to define project scope and strategy; leads preparation of development plan
  • Provides leadership to the team and functional areas to anticipate and identify program risks; proposes and implements corrective action
  • Directs project communications and ensures that all project customers are fully informed and knowledgeable of project activities and their status
  • Co-ordinates preparation of, reviews and edits governance documents, periodic project reports, budget reforecasts etc.
  • Along with the project lead, represents the Project Team at governance meetings for major strategic decisions
  • Manages project team meetings and ensures compliance with governance


Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

A PhD in a scientific field or a PharmD, DVM or MD degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Alternatively requires a BA or BS degree and minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years as a project manager and/or pharmaceutical line manager and/or pharmaceutical functional area scientist.

  • Experience should include participation in cross-functional project management activities.
  • Prior experience in cellular therapy, synthetic biology, oncology research greatly preferred
  • Must have extensive understanding of research and drug development process.
  • Must be able to understand and communicate scientific and business data and have excellent scientific writing skills
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills along with ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Must have extensive experience applying principles, concepts, practices, and standards of pharmaceutical project management
  • Must be able to support highly complex multiple activities simultaneously
  • Must possess advanced knowledge and skill with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and other reporting and tracking tools
  • Must be able to work under minimal and at times no supervision, determine personal work plan, and schedule tasks and activities
  • Line management supervisory experience is desirable
