Amgen's Global Regulatory and R&D Policy group is seeking a Strategic Planning & Operations Manager (SPO) for their Washington, DC office.

Global Regulatory and R&D Policy engages regulators, industry members, professional associations, and subject matter experts across Amgen to advance meaningful policy issues aligned with Amgen's goals and priorities.

The SPO will facilitate development and implementation of strategic planning and day-to-day operations of the Global Regulatory and R&D Policy organization. Support Organizational Head, Policy Leads, Policy team members, and internal cross-functional teams as they develop and implement strategic approaches to advance Amgen's global regulatory and R&D policy priorities.

Some responsibilities of the position include:
  • Facilitate development and implementation of policy plans and day-to-day operations
  • Facilitate Team goal setting and initiatives, and track deliverables
  • Act as a sounding board/advisor to the Organizational Leader on key activities and issues
  • Actively identify and resolve upcoming issues within the Organization and collaborate with other organizations
  • Facilitate development and drive execution of Organizational communication plan in collaboration with Corporate Affairs
  • Facilitate preparation of internal presentations including All-Staff presentations, and reports on business performance
  • Collaborate with Organizational Leader to plan and schedule meetings to achieve objectives of the organization
  • Identify or contribute to initiatives and process improvement opportunities as designated by Organizational Head
  • Conduct online research upon request, or as needed to fulfill responsibilities
  • Develop and handle on-line portal and information management system
  • Assist with management of significant Global Regulatory and R&D Policy business activities such as Headcount, Budget and Space Planning Management
  • Plan and execute large, multi-site meetings; manage vendors and communications with event participants; develop follow up materials
  • Provide administrative back-up as needed to facilitate team operations, including for multi-site meetings and remote work
  • Manage and execute daily assigned tasks upon request of Organizational Leadership

Highly organized and detail oriented
Ability to work well in teams and interact effectively with various levels of management; willingness to be flexible to meet team needs
Demonstrated self-starter with strong work ethic and excellent judgment
Takes initiative; works independently with minimal oversight
Effective at building relationships with and across organizations and networking as needed to get the work completed
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to remain poised, organized, and positive in face of tight timelines and heavy workloads
Works well across multiple time zones and can manage and appropriately prioritize numerous demands

Basic qualifications:
Doctorate degree
OR
Master's degree and 3 years of project management experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of project management experience
OR
Associates degree and 10 years of project management experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of project management experience

Preferred qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in business, engineering, life or physical sciences
  • Project management/project planning experience overseeing program deliverables, budgets, and timelines
  • Certification in project management
  • Highly skilled in Excel, Power Point, and MS Word, and project management software
