The Pharmacology group is seeking an experienced and motivated Research Associate to join the growing team in Kite Emeryville. The candidate will join an established group, playing a key role in performing in vitro and ex vivo studies to provide a mechanistic understanding for preclinical pharmacology studies in support of multiple programs utilizing engineered human T cells with chimeric antigen receptors (CARs).

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide mechanism-based data from preclinical mouse studies.
  • Characterization of tumor and immune cell populations utilizing flow cytometry and other techniques for in vitro and ex vivo experiments with cells isolated from cell culture, whole blood, tumor, or other tissues.
  • Develop, characterize and bank/maintain tumor cell lines for use in in vivo studies.
  • While the primary role involves ex vivo analysis, familiarity with mouse tumor models is a plus.


Key Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of directly related experience with multi-color flow cytometry and data analysis (FACSDiva, FlowJo) required.
  • Immunology background, with experience in phenotypic analysis of multiple immune cell populations and markers of activation/exhaustion is preferred.
  • Direct experience with appropriate technology (FlowJo, Prism, etc.) to create and distribute analysis of data is required.
  • Strong cell culture and aseptic technique, as well as experience with human cell line growth and expansion required.
  • Experience in additional molecular biology techniques such as ddPCR, phospho-flow, ELISA, or Luminex-based assays is valuable.
  • Prior experience with isolation of immune cells from multiple tissues is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently conduct studies while working efficiently as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task, perform work with a high degree of attention to detail, and motivated to be part of an exciting, dynamic, and fast-paced scientific environment.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
